Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does Carbon sole shoes go soft over time?

I know that those Fibreglass reinforced nylon soles go soft over time. Does Carbon sole shoes go soft over time too?

technically, the OP did not give us enough info to answer the question....

how long is your "over time" horizon? how high of a temperature do the soles of your feet get to on your typical ride?

Bikes: Specialized Tarmac Expert, 2002 TREK 520, Schwinn Mesa WINTER BIKE, Huffy Rock Creek 29er, 1970s-era Ross ten speed. All my bikes are highly modified(except the Tarmac) yet functional, and generally look beat to ****. .

OP, do you mean "go soft" or do you mean deform? Not quite the same thing. I can see glass-reinforced nylon deforming over time, but its basic stiffness should not change. Same for carbon. Carbon should be less prone to permanent deformation than the nylon, but some shaping to the foot/pedals would be expected.

The carbon part will NOT change shape, but the cushioning insert should. Do carbon bikes change shape over time? Of course not...

I know a guy that brought a fiberglass fishing boat. He had to stop using it over time. The hull got too soft to haul the fish in.

Yeah, right.

There have been a couple of posts in this thread joking about composite articles getting soft like CF frames and now glass fiber boats. The dofference between these type of articles and shoes is that shoes are subjected to the same specific stresses over and over that MIGHT tend to mold the article to the foot even a little bit. Maybe not, but not because boats and bike frames don't change shape.

It does not change shape from Use. It does, however, from Misuse or Abuse. Your comment is no cogent to the discussion.

Does Carbon sole shoes go soft over time?

My 25 year old carbon sole Times are beyond stiff. The outers are scuffed. I've used countless innersoles.

I had a golfer friend with carbon shafts. Over time his clubs got soft and hit him in the side of the back swing. That messed up his concentration so he switched to steel shafts now. Know what he says? Steel is real!
