I think you will find this is one of the friendliest areas of the board. You are over halfway to your June goal on June 15th, so keep it up!

Working through a summer cold, low energy and probably a mild case of overtraining. Going to go try to catch a few miles that have escaped me for the past few days.

I had a really cool experience on my night ride Thursday night, riding through a large park in the area. I came down a hill with a curve at the bottom and met a juvenile coyote. I talked at him, like I do with dogs, which is all that’s normally needed to send a coyote running for the nearest cover. This one started running away from me on the trail, looking back every 30 feet or so as if to see if I was catching up to him or not. What ensued was a drag race for about a quarter of a mile. I got close enough to hear his toenails scratching on the concrete trail. He was faster than me, and was clearly not running as fast as he could. I was not going as fast as I could either. I finally got close enough or he got bored and jumped off the trail and watched me ride past.

I experienced something similar with with a young coyote on a city street about two miles away a few months ago at about 5 AM. This time was at about 10 PM.

I’m just about to head out on the same route tonight hoping for a rematch.

-Matt

I haven't really been keeping track of my rides this year, not as religiously as I used to anyway.

6/15: 64 miles - Planned a 50-mile Birthday ride with my now 10-year old, her one Birthday wish was for a long bike ride. I had a route mapped out but thanks to unfamiliar territory and poorly signed roads we missed a couple turns which extended the ride a bit. This never really bothered me in the past as I love an adventure, and the kid was a real trooper all day - I actually struggled keeping up with her towards the end which is a little embarrassing but hey, I'm not getting any younger

Happy Father's Day, to all the Dads out there!

MTD: 64 miles

06/01 - 4.96 - TERRIBLE!!! Another blow out getting really tired of it. Always the rear tire.
06/02 - 42.27 - Great BUT Windy ride. Goal for the day was 50 miles but got leg cramps at the 39 mile mark. Good thing I was only 3 miles from home. Also figured out the blow out issue. Tire Pressure. Switched to Gator skins a few weeks ago and had pinch flats 4 times out due to lower air pressure in the back. Will now be checking pressure before I go out to ensure rear is at least 110 PSI as it seems anything lower causes flats. This is a bumpy ride but I will have to adjust accordingly.
06/06 - 2.74 - ride was more like 7-10 miles BUT my Wahoo Bolt went dead
06/09 - 25.57 - good ride only 1:35 - I have to make time to ride more
06/12 - 16.1 - first time riding before 5:30 am. I guess you could call it "fasting" cycling. Did not eat before but felt GREAT before, during and after the ride. Rain potential shortened the pre-work ride.
06/14 - 16.27 another pre-work ride taht wend great!!
06/16 - 35.11 - when is summer going to hit in SE Wisco!!! 55 degrees, rainy and windy. Still pushing through though.

Monthly Goal - 300 - plan is to ride during the week on 5-10 mile routes as well on the fitness bike just to stay in tune. Overall speed and cadence is up tremendously since the start last August.
MTD - 143.02
YTD - 1187.79

06/19 - 11.16 - another morning ride and the weather was perfect, little breeze, slightly overcast AND NO TRAFFIC!!! Tomorrow starts Tour of Americas Dairy-land Crit Races. First time going so this will be FUN.

Monthly Goal - 300 - plan is to ride during the week on 5-10 mile routes as well on the fitness bike just to stay in tune. Overall speed and cadence is up tremendously since the start last August.
MTD - 154.18
YTD - 1198.95
