this is such great information.
My Shogun serial number is 565829. I found it laying front of a branch of our public library. The librarians said it had been there for a week.
Originally it was gray and had Tange 900 decals, but I can't remember the model #.
It has the original Shimano Cantis.
2 bottle cage mounts
eyelets for racks and fenders (front and rear) + lowrider mounts
"S" seatstay caps
26.8 seatpost

I have it set up for touring and it's very smooth and comfortable.

Any information on the year, etc.

Hi all,

Picked up this Shogun Sport yesterday (Craigslist - $25). I'm sure it has not been used in years. Looks original except for the "cool seat". Serial number M9D 35953 - I guess a 1989 model? I will reburb, ride, and decide to keep or flip. Head badge is large "S" with note "Made in Taiwan". This bike not as impressive as the Japanese made bikes already posted. Anyone know anything about the model or the end of Shogun?

Bought a Shogun this week and I'm trying to determine the year. The BB has BS726042. Here is a list of the components ,,, Shimano light action derailer, Sugino crank vp 130, SLR brakes, Suzue hubs, Araya rims. The various labels are Tange Inifinity and the forks have Tangaloy labels. There are labels advertising double butted and there is a Made in Japan near the bottom of the DT. The name on the TT is Selectra. Thanks for any info

Seems to be a non-standard serial number, but possibly points to a 1985 or 1986 model. I don't know when Tange 900 was introduced, but I know that their tourers up until and including 1985 were made with Tange #2. So perhaps yours is slightly newer? They also had a tourer in the later 1980s called the Alpine GT, which used Tangalloy 2001 tubing, or something like that...

Ok, I have # M9J17324, which should be 1979. Purchased it at a thrift store for $5.00, with a broken RD. New it was 400 or more. I have done a lot of work since I saved it. When I first looked at it the lady in the store said no one wanted it because it was broken. I'm going to try and get some pictures up latter, for now i'd like to thank everyone for the information. Mine is more of a total update then restoration.

Just got done with the pictures. OK, Zero Lite wheels, seat, and Tektro brake levers from Bike Island. Fd, FSA Gossamer and cheap bars, also the Sora crank from Cross Lake Sales. Rd Microshift, Cannondale bag, Cateye cadence, cyclo-coss levers, and carbon fork from Nashbar. Performance supplyed the Deore XT 11-34 10spd cassette and Hutchinson Equinox tires. Cannondale Theta brakes, and Dura-Ace 10spd shifters from Wheelsmiths. Bar tape Specialized from LBS The Block Shop. Bottle and cage, cables, and Speedplay X5 pedals from LBS Bicycle Johns. Huret French clamp for shifters, DX10SC chain and seat post from EBAYers. Future plans, white powdercoat on frame, polish crank and outside ring. Inside ring will be drilled old school and painted red. Not to bad for a 5$, 32 year old bike.

Yeah that should be an '85. My guess would be 400, since I picked up a pair of 400's on CL and this looks so close. Mine is the beige/bronze/plumish color like this one, but my wife's mixte is the exact paint scheme as yours. I could be wrong it paint colors were shared across models. I could probably tell you for sure if you knew what the derailleur model was (mine's either a Z503 or Z505, I can't remember).

I have frame number M1F28081. I bought it as a frame on Craig's list for $50. The seatpost and stem were stuck big time, I had to get the seatpost drilled out by a frame maker. It had no decals except SHOGUN on the downtube and no headbadge. Nice pinstriping. It had Shimano 600 Arabesque brakes, crank, and shifters. It's a very well balanced bike and fun to ride. I gather from reading here that it's a 1981 Shogun 700 but I don't really know.

I have since resolved the handling issue by stabilizing the front bag better on the rack.

I'd been looking for a ride to work bike for about a month, trawling eBay, making bids, watching as the prices always went higher than i wanted to pay for a runabout. Getting super frustrated. Then last weekend I walked out the front and this was sitting over the road in a hard rubbish pile, no tires, wobbly wheels, ripped seat and filthy. So after a few hours of elbow grease (and some healthy lashings of fresh bearing grease), new tires, $20 seat, $20 campagnolo brakes, 15 mins straightening the wheels, some shiny new bolts, she ended up like this. Awesome to the power of MAX!

Hi guys!

I recently picked up a mystery bike with a full arabesque 600 group. The frame is rusted and rattle-canned, so there have been no obvious markings of what model of bike it is, but based on a bit of research I've tentatively concluded it's an early 80s shogun. It has concave finishing on the seat-stays beside the seat-tube characteristic of miyatas, but no miyata stamps on the lugs. So... it might be one of the miyata manufactured shoguns...

The other clue is that the serial number matches the form of a lot of serial numbers on here. The serial number is MIG31649.

So, I'd like to contribute it to the database (I'll post pics soon) though I don't know if it will tell you anything you didn't already know.

While on vacation in Cape Cod I picked up a Shogun off of craigslist. The idea is to fix it up a bit on each visit in between rides and beach time; although it's perfectly ridable as is. From what i've read here I presume it is a 1983, serial: M3K85832 (manufactured in november as an '84 model?). Shimano golden arrow components. One sticker says Tange 900 CR-MO double butted tubes and other stickers say 600... I presume 900 is the metal blend and 600 is the model. Perfectly lovely steelie for cruising around.

Maybe a 1995 issue frame? I've taken it and made it into my primary street machine. Installed some road tires called Drifters, they have an inverse tread on them, touring bars, new saddle, new cassette, derailleur, and chain. Oh and tail and head lights. It's been awesome and was found on the way to the dump in 2006 and preserved because of the BioPace crank set but become part of the family.

So there you go fellow SHOGUN riders, one more for the list.

Never heard of shogun, was looking for parts for another bike. I, came across a 600, s#6a021, for $5.
22.25 lbs. what should I, do with it? Parts or restore?

Some are vary well made frames, 1500, 2000, and 2500 are top of the line. 1500 are early top of the line and 2000 and 2500 are latter. 600 is still a good CroMo frame with double butted tubes, all you need to do is change what you don't like. Do you have 700 or 27 wheels. 700c frames make life easier to update.
