Hello all
I recent came into possession of this rough looking Bianchi. After doing some research I have narrowed it down to a 89-90 Bianchi Mondiale or 89 Giro with newer decals added. The thing that seems odd is the scripted "Bianchi" in the seat stays. Note the chrome under the paint. Something doesnt add up. See images.

Another question. Are the forks chromed all the way up? If I was to strip the paint, would most of the tubes have chrome?

What you have is a 1988 model. This is confirmed by the 1988 serial number, decal scheme (which is 1988-1989) and the round CdM sticker (which was 1988 only). The tubing decal is Columbus SL/SP and the presence of a chrome chain stay indicates a 1988 Bianchi Mondiale. The 1989 used Columbus SLX/SPX. The OEM Campagnolo Record components have bee switched for 600 Ultegra or it may have been purchased as a bare frameset.

The fork could be entirely chromed or chromed just slightly above the dropouts. Either way, stripping the paint is not advisable. If the chrome is meant to hidden by the paint, the steel is generally not polished prior to plating and will exhibit lots of scratches under the plating. Consequently, if you strip the paint, you may find the appearance of the chrome to be unacceptable, at which point you will be into a celeste matching issue. IMO, it's better to leave as is, unless you're prepared to repaint the entire frame.
