I meant, just general, systemic fatigue, but like nearly all of us I have some back issues.
I do these rides in the drops, except for the climbs, but I only have about a 3.5" drop from the saddle to the bar top and the drop is very shallow. My back gets pretty unhappy by the end and in direct proportion to how rapidly I'm breathing. Fortunately, a quick jump out of the saddle relieves the strain. I think I hunch up and flex my spine when I'm tired, going hard, and trying to stay low, and I need to work on keeping it in extension and getting more hip flexion. I'm doing dead lifts with resistance bands these days and I really need to get back to actual weights.

Thanks, that does sound like the move. I'll start with the rougher grits and just see how it feels.

Ugh, that super sucks. The housing market in Chicago seems to be absurdly hot right now (where are people getting all this money??). People making blind offers left and right on properties they haven't even set foot in.
Hopefully there's a silver lining here in that the house you do end up in will be even better than the one you didn't get.

I have barely a 2" drop from saddle to bar top and I use shallow bars. Yes, when it starts to hurt a few seconds of standing on the pedals helps a lot. I'm afraid to try any other treatment on it. I used to do stretching but I think I aggravated it doing too much so I stopped a while back.
I don't stretch the legs either. I did it for specific problems and injuries when I was running, but never found daily stretching helpful for performance. Everything on me is so short and tight I could barely do the stretches anyway. While some people obviously benefit, controlled studies don't indicate any good effects at the population level.

And how did he know I owned a Targęt knife anyway?

I can take or leave bar ends. People always say that they're basically as convenient as brifters but I don't see it. I'll keep my set of Suntour racheting ones around anyways, they don't take up much space.
I have a deep seated hatred of vintage smooth post canti brakes, especially when trying to do a 27" -> 700C conversion on a vintage touring bike with narrow posts.
My Trek has modern spacing and Tektro CR720s and they were the simplest cantis I've ever set up. Really great braking with the stock pads, too.
Can you come do mine? Mine like to glaze over every month or so

Most likely. I’ve been on that ‘too much house’ ride, not really worth it.
