Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Rudy's were the only ones adjustable enough to fit my ugly face. So I say rudy's.
Besides, around here, I see way too many yuppies with oakleys. Rudy's I don't see that often cept on atheletes.
Kinda like my running shoes. Nikes are a dime a dozen, everyone has em. I really don't see mizuno's on anyone cept people who actually use them to run.

Just a plug for the Rudy's. The lenses on mine were scratched and were easily replaced under their lens guarantee. It cost me about $15. They fixed the rubber ear pieces which were coming off and threw in a new case and microfiber bag! Definitely good customer service!

I'm not so much an oakley fanboy, but an Mframe one. I'm in love with my Mframes (pro style without the hinge). These were my first cycling sunglasses, and ever since, I have yet to find a pair that are better. I've tried a couple rudy styles (duno the names), and even a couple oakleys, the Zeros and Half Jackets. None of them come close in my opinion. The Pro M frames just stay on my face without the slightest slipping. Once they're on, I totally forget about them. Which to me is the biggest tell of whether the glasses work for you.

I have a pair of Rudy's..Great optics...But often wear my Performance glasses..The pair I got is vented..Helps a lot in clammy conditions with any fogging problem.
If it matters...YOu survey pro riders..Seems they favor Oakley's by a great margin..? Do we agree..Oakleys seem the bigger seller.

I think Rudys are made of better materials. The lenses on two pair of Oakleys pitted from the sweat off my head. The dealer replaced the first pair, I gave up on the second pair and switched to Rudy Kerosene Premiums.

I have both, the RP's are more comfortable and adjustable but the oakley pro M's stay in the helmet better when i'm doing some serious climbing.

I have been using Rudy's and Oakley for over a decade.. The newer style Rudy's are much better as far as replacement policy.. I have never had a pair of Rudy's break while I have had at least 6 pairs of M frames break over time.. Oakley frame are just too fragile and over time develop small cracks which them leads to the frames being useless.

Oakley used to have a replacement policy where if the frames broke they would replace them, even exchange.. Last time I went to Oakley, they will only give you store credit which is equal to $40.00.. So you bring in 2 broken frames and you barely have enough to cover the cost of 1 pair of new glasses..

i had pairs of Oakleys Square Wires... great glasses.. great frame quality... GREAT OPTICS... and then i lost both pairs (bye bye 300$)

i also had some Rudy Graal SX... the quality is really sub-par and the feel is very cheap... but then, again, that goes for all plasticky-type "sport" sunglasses (even Oakleys)... atleast the lenses on oakleys are better

i have a pair of wiley-x XL-2's which are a great product, but better in low light conditions. once the cruddy weather cleared out, i bought a cheapie pair of shades from AM/PM. they are better than the oakleys and rudys i've been trying on during my search for a higher quality pair. could just be my cheap taste, though.

I have a pair of smiths, I've had them for so long though that I can't remember the model name on them. Is it "Slider?" I think so. It has three lenses. These things are solid, of course fit is dependent on each individuals head and face, but these things have been run over (intentionally, I might add!) by a truck when they popped out of my jersey pocket and they withstood the blow. I still wear them 2 years after the attack.

I prefer Rudy's for the simple reason that I have an Rx insert. With
Oakley you have to have custom ground lenses. With the insert I can
still change sunglass lenses without having to buy a bunch of different
Rx lenses.
I wear Bolle when I'm diving. Great glasses at a reasonable price (snake
series). The only reason I didn't go with the Bolle riding glasses is that
I didn't like the Rx attachment system and I've heard of problems developing
with their system.

Another happy Rudy Project Kerosene owner here. I tried the Oakleys and none of them fit my face right but the RPs were a perfect match... especially with the adjustable nose and bayonets. I also wear Rx and needed the ability to fit inserts. And recently I found that if I want custom ground wraps, there's an outfit that can do that for me and they specialise in Rudy Projects (they also handle Smith and Adidas). Unlike the Oakley system where only part of the wrap is RXed, the whole wrap is made prescription... very cool but also very expensive.

I use the Oakley M Frames and love them. I've been using Ms since the mid 90s. Back then, no charge for replacement. There was a problem with the frame near the hinge (back then), but that's been fixed. I replaced 3 frames and 4 lenses back when it was free. Now, Oakley charges if it out of warranty period (1 year I think). I just went down with 3 damaged lenses. I got one free and paid $21 each for new M Iridium lenses. Fit is foremost. Since I wear soft contacts, I need wrap arounds or I get too much wind pressure. I also use the Ms while skiing.

I've seen Bolles crack. I've never worn Rudy's.

Also, being in southern CA, Oakley is 35 min away which is convenient. Their service is probably better when you're in their facility with busted parts with a line of other customers ... jm2wcw ....

Not sure where people get the idea that Oakley changed their replacement policy. I had my Pro M Frames replaced less than a year ago (my 100lb Retriever sat on them); all it cost me was shipping.
Other than the dog crushing issue I've never had any problem with them (have had them for seven years now).

I have had hit and miss luck with Oakleys, especially when trying to switch lenses a lot. The frames always seem to lose their shape over the course of the year. The only pair that I have that has held up well is a pair that I never mess with. Oakley's warranty/replacement approach has left me hanging before too.

I am using Rudy Rydons this year and really really like the way that they are designed so that you can dial in the fit to your face. The frame also sits a little higher over my eyes, instead of coming straight across like the Oakley Pro M's. I really notice how much easier it is to watch down the road when I am in the drops. The optics are dialed in nicely for cycling too.

I've got Adidas Evil Eyes w/ prescription inserts. They're the only ones I could try on beforehand. I've got large melon. Very comfortable. Would have liked to have tried on RP's. They look attractive & functional. Smiths and Oakleys really expensive with prescription (not just inserts) lenses.

I just went through finding a good pair of sunglasses. I lost my Bolle Morphs out mountain biking. I really liked those glasses but they do not make them with interchangeable lenses anymore so I had to find something else. I bought a pair of Rudy Project Graal SX for $120 at Sport Chalet, took them out on one ride and took them back. My eyelashes continuously touched the lenses and I could not tweak them enough to stop the problem. I exchanged them for a pair of Oakley Half Jackets which I absolutely love so far. The quality of the frames and lenses seem much better than the Rudy's. The Half Jackets were $104 so I even go money back! I also tried the Smith Theory glasses. Quite honestly, they felt very cheap.

I found this thread interesting in that many people were saying that their glasses broke. How? From crashing? Sitting on them? Falling off your face? Yanking them like a wishbone? Just curious...
