Bullet PROOF Road Racing Tires?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do heavier riders get flats more oftenly than super light riders like who weigh in the 130s-140s?

I've only been riding 3.1k Miles w/o a flat. I've used Bontrager Race Lites and i've switched to Vredstein Fortezza SE. Loved both of them but i love the 160 Max PSi on the Fortezza. I weigh 117.

Don't ride 'dillos if you intend to corner hard. They have excellent sidewall cut protection, but they have the worst grip of any tire I've tried -- you'll wind up sliding on the pavement. Also, they are a very heavy and slow tire.

Despite anything people say here, tough durable race tires don't exist.

You mean like the Schwalbe Marathon Plus? This is the most puncture resistant tire I've ridden. Significantly more so than the 'dillos and they have better grip. They're heavy and slow as sin.

There's a lot more to it than that. After you've tried more tires, you'll understand.

I hear you, brother. I'm 140 lbs of RIPPLING MUSCLE and I have MAN MEAT to SPARE!

When I'm commuting, I take a FRAME MOUNTED PUMP, just so I can fend off the WOMEN who THROW THEMSELVES at me AS I HAMMER along my route!

ouch - sorry to hear about the accident!

Specialized All-Condition Armadillo Tire (700x28c)will get you where you are going in one piece. I've got them on 3 bikes. I weight 225 lbs and I crank these babies up to 120 psi in the summer. this time of year I get them to 110. even at full pressure they are comfortable. some people have said they feel slow, so maybe there's a better tire for you, but I feel quite safe on them. I might go narrower, but would like to stay with the same tire.

And people say BF is stupid.

Look at the amount of useful contribution compared to how much people are JOKING about CAPITALIZATION. It is awesome.

I love this thread. I avoided it because I thought it was going to be another boring "this v. that what do you recommend" but it was SO much MORE THAN I could HAVE ever believed IN MY entire LIFE!

I remember an advertising campaign from a motorcycle company that advertised their motorcycle as having a "bullet proof" engine. I can imagine some drunk walking out of a bar and pointing his 44 magnum at a bike' and putting a few bullets in the bike's engine. I bet the engine isn't "bullet proof". The advertisement disappeared quickly.
