2018 Jamis Renegade Elite

https://www.evanscycles.com/en-se/ja...-bike-EV306049

This is the first info I have seen for 2018 Elite. Looks like they went with the new Ultegra 8000 group. I rode a 2016 Elite last weekend and loved it. The American Classic wheels rolled like a dream and the geometry of the bike and carbon frame felt super responsive when I stood to climb. Decisions decisions!!

I like it. Pretty boring, but I would ride it.

Geometry is pretty much unchanged. The HTL and standover are given as different, but with everything else the same to the millimeter, I don't believe those have changed. Shoota calls it boring, but it remains spot-on in my book. Maybe they could add a Lauf fork, but I can do that.

I'd own the Renegade Elite instead of a Niner RLT 9 RDO if the Renegade came with Ultegra Di2.

It is the only bike I know of that comes with Americal Classic 29" RACE wheels with centerlock hubs. I called American Classic and tried to buy a pair but they would not sell them. They said that they make them special order exclusively for Jamis and that they were not available to the public.

It sticks in my craw that I can't have those wheels.

I'll take boring over butt ugly. I've always thought Jamis had the cheesiest decals. But I'm actually digging the 2018 Elite.

If you look closely at the picture it looks like they photoshopped Di2 shifters on a bike with mechanical R8000 shifters. I'm guessing Shimano is still having availability issues with the new 8000 group.

They do finally seem to be turning that around. The 2017 Expert and Exploit looked sweet, and the 2018s have all looked similarly fine so far. I settled for the less attractive 2016 Expert, due to pricing I couldn't refuse. I'm not above removing the decals, and I surely will if I ever get that Lauf Grit fork that I covet every time I crawl down the steep jeep track that serves as my access route to most of my gravel rides.

I have the 2017 Expert and I like the hits of neon yellow and lime on the frame. I want a little color in my bike. The 2018 Elite definitely looks boring, but perhaps in person it has more presence. Otherwise it looks unchanged, save the switch to current Ultegra. That's not a bad thing, as the Renegade is already incredibly versatile. I do agree with @TimothyH that I'd like to see one specced with Di2. Jamis is relatively small though, and maybe they ran the numbers and couldn't make a business case. I do want to see the US pricing for these 2018s.

BTW did you guys also notice the Renegade Escapade product listing? It looks an awful lot like the Exploit as a frameset.

I decided to go with the 2016 Elite because of the American Classic wheels (having the Compass Barlow Pass tubeless 38's mounted) and got a pretty good price on the bike. I'm having the Ritchey seat post/seat switched out for a normal Ritchey carbon post and yet to decide what seat to go with. Also going to put on some Shimano xtr M9000 pedals. I assume I will be pulling the gaudy stickers off the wheels and I can live with the underwhelming paint on the bike. I am excited to pick it up this weekend and put some miles on it next week.

So curious what price you did get the bike for and from where?

Thanks

Nice, but I sure wish they'd offer, say, an 11/40 on the back if not smaller rings on the front as well. Call it the "super adventure drivetrain" option or something. These adventure bikes are awesome, but they come geared like you're crit racing. I hope to be swapping out my 11/34 for an 11/40 next week on my '17 Exploit just to have a couple of easier gears for those steep woods roads.

2016 Elite was $3500 and purchased from Sic Transit in Ann Arbor. It had been sitting on their floor for a while and they obviously discounted it from $4199. Biggest draw for me was the AC wheels.....they are so nice! I was told that Jamis decided to down grade to the current wheels so they could get the bike back under $4K. I love the bike and its been a pleasure to ride!

We've seen the 2018 Renegade Elite and Expat already, but EIRIN, a Japanese bike shop, has some interesting (and larger!) photos of the other 2018 Renegades on their blog. Sizes 48 and 44 now come with 650 x 42c tires.

2018 Renegade Expert
This is perhaps the most radical departure visually. It's growing on me, though I'm not really a fan of white bikes. The spec appears identical to the 2017.

2018 Renegade Exploit
This also appears to be a purely cosmetic update. I think it's my favorite version of the Exploit so far.

2018 Renegade Expat
Jamis has already shown the new paint scheme on their site, but EIRIN also shows a charcoal variant.

2018 Renegade Explore
Most intriguing perhaps is the new Explore trim. It's the aluminum frame from the Exile paired with the carbon fork and thru-axle from the more premium trims. 10.4kg listed weight. It also gets the surprisingly decent Sora shifters and derailleurs paired with Tektro Lyra brakes. This seems like a pretty solid bike that will likely slot in right at the $999 USD mark. I think it looks surprisingly good in white. EIRIN also shows an army green color.

2018 Renegade Exile
Another seemingly cosmetic-only freshening, in black and red. The red certainly pops!

Although most of the new renegades aren't on their site yet, they are available and taking orders. Just placed an order for the Escapade to replace my Expat!!!

Really like these 2018s. Some sweet designs. I'd say they're going to sell a ton with those prices.

Escapade?

Anyone heard or know anything about the Renegade Escapade? 631 steel with Ultegra.

Yes. It is the same frame as the Exploit, with dark grey paint and R8020. $500 more. Not much else to say about it.

I like everything I see about the 2018 Renegade Elite. But nearest dealer is 50 miles and in SoCal that can be a 2.5 hour drive. There is a Niner shop I know, the RLT 9 RDO 4-Star looks pretty similar. Frame geometry is nearly identical. Anyone have any pros or cons on the Niner vs the Jamis?

Looking at the components, the Elite is the clear winner. Price is cheaper also.

Old post, but I disagree. I think the spec is very similar. How is the Jamis a clear winner? You get the Niner carbon wheels with Dt swiss 350 on the RDO vs American Classic Race on the Jamis. Both awesome, but I prefer the Niner carbon. They are insanely strong rims. The Niner also has a 15mm front axle vs Jamis's 12mm. Funny that Jamis went backwards from the 15mm they had earlier.
