Exciting Season

I wonder if the people who complain that racing is formulaic, boring, and dominated by the Team Sky money train ever bother to watch any race outside the TdF? I think we’re seeing one of the most exciting seasons in years, and the Amstel Gold is being called one of the greatest races ever. Racing sure looks alive and well to me.

Agreed. And Sky is hardly a factor in the spring classics.

van der Poel was phenomenal at the Amstel Gold. I hope he stays in road racing, rather than retuning chiefly to the MTB scene - which I don't really follow.

Also, Sagan's win at Paris Roubaix last year was one for the ages. Considering his performance this year and the many new faces in racing, that already seems like a long time ago.

To be fair, Sagan is only having a disappointing year compared to Sagan. If he was an ordinary mortal, we'd be talking about the Slovak and his potential. I'm hoping he's back in full form in time to earn the green jersey and put on a show at TdF. One of my favorite TdF moments was when he and Froome went into a breakaway together in 2016.

He's 31 and too old for us to be talking about his "potential". I'm sure that he has many exciting races and years ahead of him and that this spring is just a patch of comparatively unexceptional results. But for a little while, he was by far the most exciting guy in the peloton, and it's pretty clear that he's going to have some competition for that title, particularly if ven der poels commits to the road.

I'd like to see another rider bring as much charisma to the sport like Sagan does. Love his attitude.

He just turned 29 this past January.

Years in the rainbow jersey count extra. He's 29 in normal mortal years, but 31 in world champ years.
