Ride report with Pics - Manning Park

Notices
Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Ride report with Pics - Manning Park

In the quest for suffering I went further afield today to find a hill worth climbing and set my sights on the Sub Alpine trailhead at Manning Park. Manning is about 200Km's from Vancouver BC on the Crowsnest Hwy or about 150Km's from my home. Along the way I stopped at the Hope Slide, one of Canada's largest that occurred in 1965 and buried the old Hope Princeton Hwy.

After a beautiful drive it was time to ride and this road is all uphill. 820m in 17 Km's all told to the trail head.

The first section is paved to a viewpoint and then gravel after that. At some point there is a gate and then about a couple of more Km's up to the top. Some alpine flowers were in bloom such as lupine, painted brush and pasque. Still snow at the top.

Looking down on Manning Resort where I parked. I'm about 1/2 way up.

East towards Princeton

The start of the gravel

End of the road - literally.

After a couple of hours up it was time for some fun down the switchbacks. My arms are a little red from burning on reentry. Somewhere, a guy in a pickup is wondering what blew by him.

Stopping to cool my jets. Those mountains are Mox Peaks in the U.S.A. Northern Cascades.

Wildlife included a Blue Grouse in full display and a couple of small bears eating flowers by the side of the road. Though one is brown, both are Black Bears.

All in all. Time well wasted.

I post these trip reports partly to share my experiences and partly to show you don't need a 3K gravel bike to ride gravel; just a lack of common sense.

Great pics! I visit to Vancouver quite a bit for work, but haven't had a ride anything there yet.
