Mi:Kalamazoo River Valley Trail news

"The trail is 99.9 percent complete, and highly utilized by a diverse group of people,"

All that's needed to complete the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail is for MDOT and Amtrak to play nice. And a million dollars.

The Parks Foundation of Kalamazoo County has launched Campaign Connect, hoping to raise $1 million to finish the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail.

Private funds raised, plus public funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation will go to finish the last few miles of trail to connect Galesburg and Augusta and link the KRVT system with the Battle Creek Linear Park at the Fort Custer Recreation Area.

As of Dec. 11, according to a Parks Foundation of Kalamazoo County video they've already raised around 65% of their goal. (

I live a couple miles from the current eastern terminus.
Constructing the leg through Galesburg & Augusta was supposed to happen this year, but the contractor is having a difficult time finding the manpower. The Township had a six-month long revamp of Merrill Park on the river stretch into 2 years for the same reason.
Currently, a section is closed across South Wenke Park in Comstock as dredging crews remove silt from a mile long stretch of the river due to a dam accident a mile upstream.

(I should note.. it's going to be a great experience for me to ride from my house, out to Ft. Custer National Cemetery, and visit the graves of my Dad, uncle, and a couple friends I lost too soon who are all buried there)

I came through Galesburg on Monday on my way home from Indiana..
The route is completed to McCollum St.
Galesburg to South Haven & back is now an official Century ride!
(oops.. math is a little off.. you need to include the leg up to Dave once..)

I rolled through there yesterday.. the Village of Augusta has a separated bike route through the east end of town to the railroad.. Ft Custer Entrance is another quarter-mile beyond.. it looks like they have done some grading along the railroad tracks, but no signs of improvement beyond that.
