Got a Speeding Ticket (Woo Hoo!)
Saturday morning during our normal group ride I got a speeding ticket - 41 in a 30 in the town of Cold Spring Harbor. I had dropped my water bottle and was attempting to catch the group. The Garmin said my max speed was 39.3 during that mile, but I am going to log the RADAR, makes me feel better. The Garmin also said it was about a -2% grade, not a big hill, but I had a little push.
The only ID I had was my Road ID and a credit card. The officer accepted the credit card and was actually pretty nice. I am going to go to court and attempt to keep it off my Driver's License. I have no problem paying the ticket as long as it does not count as points. Not sure how I am going to pull that off, but it never hurts to plead my case.

11 over... As an officer I'd just like to say I'm sorry you got a ticket. Weak, very weak especially when issued to a bike rider.

It's pretty much the universal form of ID in the US

I'm framing my speeding ticket as soon as I get it. If cited for blowing a stop sign? Not so much. And I'm paying them both, of course. I'm looking for that speed trap that has a downhill, downwind approach to it, a nice half-mile lead-in free of traffic, and hopefully a female officer.

Genetics have failed me
Since cyclists are vehicles on the road just like cars, given the law I would say yes.
The cop on the other hand could have let it slide, I mean what is the danger of a cyclist going 10 over speed limit? Geeez.

IT SHOULD NOT GO AGAINST YOUR DRIVING RECORD. Do not use your drivers liscense as ID as they will most likely write it up and insurance will think it is a car violation. Always use a library card, school id, ect and say you do not have a drivers liscense.

Boy that is lame. Hopefully the judge will give you a break. Change the 1 to a 7....and then frame it.

can't they just look you up, based on the name on whatever you give them, and issue the ticket?

There's no way they can take points off of your driver's license for operating a bike. They're two different things. That's like getting points off your boating license for speeding in a car. It doesn't make sense.
