Put new tape on the '97 SwissCross. The original gravel grinder.

My wife and I have never used the "stoker stays strapped in" approach...we always start with left foot on ground, right foot strapped in with pedals at 1:00, push off with left while simultaneously starting the pedaling stroke, coast a wee bit and slide the left foot into place. Bungee also helps keep the toe clips from scraping when riding single which I've been doing as I adjust derailleurs and such.

That really looks nice. Now you just have to find some matching yellow water bottles. Your placement of the pump is interesting. We put our pump behind the stoker's seat tube because the space between the split diagonals was too narrow. It still was a struggle getting the pump off the frame.

I miss riding our version of that bike. It was our favorite tandem - we have owned six tandems over the past 48 years.

One of one. Ritchey Junior Team TT bike circa 1990ish. Chan McRae, Bobby Julich, Eric Harris rode this. I bought it from a former member around 94.

I do have some yellow bottles, both vintage Avocet (with red lettering and red image of avocet) as well as some Specialized. Interesting about your pump placement, Otis and Joe placed their pump in front of captain's seat tube...I just kind of followed suit.

I bought this Ritchey tandem off eBay a couple of weeks ago. I’m in New Zealand so it will take a few weeks to get to me, but I’m looking forward to tidying this up and getting on the road.

Not exactly vintage, but hopefully you can still help me. Picked this up recently and when I was putting it back together I snapped the down tube hinge clamp. I havnt been able to figure out what year this is so I can order a replacement. Seller said he thinks he bought it in 2010 but wasn’t sure. Anybody have a guess? I emailed ritchey and havnt heard back yet.

it’s a breakaway. On website I believe they call it a hinge clamp, or coupler. On the down tube it goes over where the red and blue meet.

I think he means a braze-on cable guide, perhaps? Maybe one on the bottom bracket? There are some loose cables floating around down there in the picture.

Not mine, but if you came to this thread with Ritchey lust, here's your chance:

$1500 on the Tucson CL.

Oh, wow, thanks. Does the cable go through that?

Sorry for extending this, I'll be back someday with a picture of my 1987 Ritchey Ultra.

has nothing to with a cable. it holds the down tube together.

Hi all, I recently picked up this 1983 Ritchey Mount Tam with original paint. I love the fillet-brazed frame and bi-plane fork. I was able to install new BB sealed bearings because the originals were very dry.

Holy cow, I had no clue there was such a thing as a Ritchey Breakaway bike. Guess I have some self-education to do, thanks.

RItchey Road Logic, purchased new in 1997, with 8sp Dura Ace, at a steep discount because 9sp DA had just come out! I kept it 8sp till last Fall, when I realized I was not riding it enough, so I swapped the 7400 series STIs and rear derailleur for 7800 series to give me 10 speeds and the ability to run a 12-30 cassette. I kept the 7410 crankset, because it's The Most Beautiful Crankset Ever Produced.

I don't think of it as 'vintage', oddly enough, even though it's at least 26 years old.

You might want to check this out and see what happens when you get one and want a different fork for it.
