Brad3104, My 1979 model? seems very similar to yours. The original components were Takagi Tourney crankset, Shimano Tourney brakes with 600ex levers, 600ex derailleurs front and rear, Araya 27"x1" rims on generic low-flange Shimano hubs, with the early uniglide freehub with 6 speed cassette. My seatpost, bottom bracket, stem and bars were SR and the size of the post was 26.8. Mine has a sticker at the top of the seat tube indicating double-butted CrMo, but no model designation. My guess would be Tange #2. Do you also have the freehub? Their is no bulge on the drive side, but the axle holds it all together. I'm still riding it to work every day! PGMikeT

Hi, back in November 1982 I bought a Durace equiped Shogun. I raced it for a few years and put it in the garage. I neglected it for 10 years, but in the last 10, it has seen the light of day a few times each year.
The bike is dark blue with all the correct brazeons including rear derailer. Single crown on the fork and concave at the top of the seat stays. Serial number is MOJ63461. I know it sat around in the shop a while before I bought it. I am looking at repainting it otherwise it is very good. It has the full Durace groupset including seat post, quill stem and hubs. Hubs are laced to 27 inch Araya rims. It was a 6 speed cassette type but I made it into a seven the same year I got it. ( thinner spacers and an extra cog )

I took all.....yes all the stickers off it the day I bought it. Its got a Tange Ritzy headset and I don't remember if it was Champion or Tange tubes. Seatpost measures around 26.5mm.

There are a few of these kicking around in New Zealand and also some Shogun 600s. The 600s are fully Shimano 600 equiped. Hope this helps your data base.

Thxs for the contribution. Your bicycle should be a Shogun 3000. The serial number actually makes it a 1980 or 1981 model.

I've got no idea what year this bike is. The paint is a deep blue with a nifty headbadge (looks like an angry samurai!) with "made in Japan" and "Special Tubing" decals. I'm not entirely sure what is original to the bike, but when it bought it it was equipped with ALPS handlebars, steel Araya rims w/ Miyata 27 x 1/2 inch tires, shimano stem shifters, a shimano (skylark?) rear derailleur along with a nondescript shimano front derailleur, takagi crank arms, and a shimano 5 speed freewheel (I think with twisty teeth). It has center pull brakes, but I can't tell the make. The frame has no braze-ons, but does have eyelets for fenders. That's all I got!

Well, it's a 1982 model, manufactured by Yamaguchi and pretty far down the ladder by the sounds of it.

Just got this: Serial # Y5L4049-Tange 900 db 19.5" frame-tangaloy fork-sakae 52/40 sa 165 cranks-duble eyelets on rear-Araya 27" satin finish alloy rims on shimano hubs-sr stem-sr sp468 pedals-stong alloy seatpost mast 26.6-6 speed shimano z series deraillures in a lavender metallic color. As pictured I changed out the wheels to weinmanns/seat post to Tahei/and added no name bars and brakelevers from my bin/as it came without any. I dated it from the components.

tough thread to read....had a blue & silver Shogun in '84, Dura Ace equiped. Got married and traded for a pair of Giant Iguanas '90.......wish I didn't make that trade. Lots of nice bikes, brought back some fond memories....thanks for all the pics.

Hi!Shogun Bicycle picked up at goodwill for $7.. Cleaned it up and added new tires,bell,bottle holder,a different seat,used Pletscher beartrap rack,used handlebar tape and caps.
Anyway..info(I’m pretty naďve and just started collecting bicycles..Raleigh Prof,Raleigh Folder,and Hayakawa brake-rod....Please take it easy on my lack of knowledge!;^)..:For the record..Serial numberM3L98048,10 speed Shimano(small letters..model?) derailleur and front,Shimano brakes(del 80?) and levers,Road Champion bars,SR stem,”CUSTOM”on cranks,Araya rims.
The headbadge is gone but it’s still showing “OGU” on the tube…What else could it be?LOL!No model number anywhere..appears to be the original paint,has a few scratches.Chrome good.
I picked this up for everyday riding and adding enough so that I could add the panniers,front bag,and rear top bags I have(all red) and go lightweight camping!
I’ve got about $50 into it.
Any info as far as age and model would be appreciated..Keep up the good work!

Hi!Picked up this Shogun mixte yesterday .. looking for something short for the wife to ride(guess what..she's short!)..Anyway..appears to be cheap Sport model..M6-L2208 SN..
One thing weird..it has a 24"tire/fork on the front(27" rear)!It appears to be a factory change by the decals/paint scheme/color the same on the fork and seat tube(High Tension Shogun).it also has "Made in Taiwan" and " Designed in Japan" decals on the lower seat tube.
I'm not familiar with Mixtes(first one in my bike "stable"..)..Is this a common factory practice to run 24" forks and tires on the front???The seat post is a small 17" also..:-O

Okay..no responses..Anyway.I ended up modding out the bars(kalloy lopped off 3" for her),changed the brakes(shimano) and levers(tetkro) and grips(serfas) to something upright for the wife..Now it's like riding a 27" ten speed with the view/feel factor of a small 24" folder on steroids..LOL!The wife says it's the most comfortable bike she's ever ridden!:-O At least she'll probably ride it now!

Here is my Shogun 700 with all Shimano 600 Arabesque components. It's serial # is M1E32995 and it has the Made In Japan sticker on the seat tube just above the BB. It also has a 26.8 seat post and 700c wheels. This bike is fast and smooth, and I love it. Any help with year would be appreciated....... It also has a sticker on the top tube (CR-MO Butted Tubing 700)

Hi folks,
I've been lurking around here for awhile, but this is my first post.
I have no idea of the serial number for my Shogun, but am happy to see some others who have Shoguns.
Mine was found laying on the street in front of a neighborhood branch of the public library. It had been there for almost a week and the librarians urged me to take it. When I looked it over I realized it was a full on touring model with eyelets and braze ones for multiple racks, fenders, bottle cages, etc.
It had a Sakae triple crank, Shimano down tube shifters, nice Shimano canti brakes and some other pieces I cannot remember, but still have in a box. It had 27" wheels, but worked fine with 700c's even with the canti's
The frame is a little small, but I decided to make it work as my touring/camping bike and so far it has been awesome, stable under loads and really comfortable on multi day trips. Its done a century and routinely goes on 60 and 70 mile rides. It is however not a "fast bike".
The geometry is a little wacky. It has a 33 inch stand over with Schwalbe Marathon 32's, but has a 22" top tupe. The reach is a little crowded, but I've fixed this as best I can with a CLB seatpost (26.8) ] and a long stem. TCO is definitely an issue if you aren't on the look out.

I stripped the frame and had it powder coated and re-built it with mostly new and scavenged parts from around the basement.

It is a 600 model and originally had pretty bland gray paint. It had a TANGE 900 steel sticker and a made in Japan sticker.

Capecodder, I believe the frame date is December 1981. Mine s M9... which is December 1979, and by the way - what a beautiful bike! Mine was a champagne/beige oriiginally, and I just repainted it... black with red grip tape!
Make that May (E) for month code. My serial is M9J23794.

I LOVE this bike, has not steered me wrong. A bit heavy but a strudy city ride and comfortable for long distances, PMC (X5)!!
Bike is fast and smooth; at least as fast as I can make it go, lol.

Mine is M2E19918. Guess that's May of '82. I don't know much about bikes, but I know this about it so far: it's a Cr-Mo 500, with a triple crankset and Shimano Deore components that appear to be original to the bike. Front and rear rack braze-ons, but no water bottle braze-ons. No "made in Japan" stickers, but I can't imagine what else it would be. Stem is not original, but another forum member is sending me his stock stem to try. Got me some angry samurai stickers. The wheels are 27". I assume the crankset is 18 speeds, but I don't know much about these things (learning though!). The brakes are also Shimano. Seems to be a touring bike, at least to some degree, but I don't know what slack geometry looks like, so I'm not sure. The current tires don't hold air, but when I did some short test rides, it seemed very smooth. I'll post pics (I have them in other threads. God knows, everyone has seen this thing by now) when it's all beautiful and shiny.
