Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

55/Rad Bike Photography Sample Video

I finally got around to wrangling some samples of my bike photography and put them into a video slideshow on Youtube.

It's a work in progress that is 2 minutes long and is best viewed with the quality set to 720P HD in the large (not full screen) format.

What I'm interested in is finding a way to share this slideshow publicly so it can be displayed full screen at full resolution. Youtube is fine for reference but gets fuzzy and granular as you blow it up.

Please share your thoughts.

The leather is really weird, but it's good photography, and a good show.

You could do the slideshow pretty easily in javascript or jQuery. One way to do it would be to have a few sets of the images, at different sizes, and use j to sniff out the screen size on the browser, then send down the appropriate ones, and use a timer to loop through them. (But please don't try and change the window size!)

If you want to stick with video format then vimeo is better quality and more focused to people who care about compression quality etc. If you want to move to a nice image hosting site then smugmug is great though not free https://www.smugmug.com/

Well, that's just awesome! I watched it at 720p, and it looked great. Nice music, too.

Nice job.

Unless you've tried to take photos like those you'll never appreciate how difficult it can be.

Of all the bikes I've seen around here, that chrome Pinarello is tops. Nice pictures too.

Have you looked into SlideShare? I use that for a load of stuff, and seems like it might be a good option for still images. Never used it for hi-res photos though. Worth a look?

Hi,

Not only is it physically difficult to create these images but few people an artistic eye like 55/Rad. On top of that preparing the bikes and components for these photos is also very difficult.

55/Rad, it's been too long since I've seen your work. Thanks for posting this. Wish I had some useful information regarding your video question. Glad to see that you and your bikes are still around.

Ha...no. Unlikely to happen. I need to be inspired in order to do that level of work. Actually thinking of selling it....

+1 on the vimeo recommendation. It's free until you start to exceed presentation length and you're limited in how much you can upload per week, but the quality blows youtube out of the water. You can also embed it in your blog or wherever you'd like, and you can allow people to download it (a little fuzzy on that one)

I enjoyed your video - thanks for sharing.

I can't really help on the format question(s), but just wanted to join in on the collective thumbs up. 55/Rad does beautiful work in this area and is a heck of a guy. How cool would it be to get boudoir-style shots like those of your own high-end bike...maybe as a Father's Day gift? My bikes aren't worthy.
