Race video, critique our team tactics?
I hope you find this interesting. It has been dubbed the "What not to do by Team Blue" video. There may have been some team mistakes. However, there are lots of exciting moments.
I would love to get some suggestions from the group about team tactics. While the video describes what I was thinking, it may (or likely is) flawed.

edit the video, and ask specific questions, and you're more likely to get helpful responses.

This will all be covered in my next book. 84% completed at this point.
Seems you already know the problem: you CAN NOT chase down a breakaway that contains YOUR rider. It's like tackling your teammate as he sprints for the end zone.
There's not much else to say.
I'm guessing when you guys get together, you want to talk about tactics, but the rest of the guys just want to ride.

I think you need to provide a little more information if you want constructive feedback.
1. What category of race is this or if no cat what are the experience levels? Tactics in a CAT 5 race are a lot different than a CAT 3 race. I am guessing this was a race with less experience because of the huge gaps between riders and the fact that the breakaway with four riders that had plenty of time to get away out front went nowhere.
2. As a team what were your goals before the race? There did not seem to be a whole lot of cohesive teamwork as was mentioned above.
Also you might get a better response in the race forum. Great camera footage though. The three cameras covered everything.

Yea, I wonder if this forum would be better for this question
[h=2]Road Bike Racing[/h](34 Viewing)We set this forum up for our members to discuss their experiences in either pro or amateur racing, whether they are the big races, or even the small backyard races. Don't forget to update all the members with your own race results.
Lots of racing stuff in the road Cycling forum, but it's not the racing forum. I enjoyed watching the video though. I would like to dabble in crits, but never want to hit the pavement again in my lifetime, so it won't happen.

Twice in the 1st 3 minutes I see the videographer effectively chasing his own teammates. Not good.
Also, when 3 of the same team are sitting on front, trying to let a break go (4:30) and a rider from another team bridges the gap, one of your team's riders should go with & sit on his wheel. Let him pull you up.
But, if this is a training race? Everybody should chase everybody! Make 'em work!

:30 secs -- Rob goes off the front. Cameraman says he shouldn't go with (true) but never lets the gap open up, at :52 secs, it's the same size gap as originally. At :39 - "I hang back & let him go". No you didn't. @ :40, you look back & have your own gap on the pack, causing them to chase. Should have freewheeled while staying on the front.
