Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic Huez Shoes, Worth it?

Hey guys,

Was just curious on your opinions on the Yellow Mavic Huez Shoes?

I currently have scattante ferraci road shoes, and have had them for the past year.
They're size 46 and my left foot has always been going numb on my rides since I have had them, and I was thinking maybe about switching to 45's but just never got around to it.

Anyways, these mavics ARE 45's and are priced at a pretty good deal (in my opinion) of 150$ (Seller is wanting to get rid of them)

So I guess my questions are,

- What are your guy's opinion on these shoes? Is it worth it for 150$?
- How do I know if the shoes are the right "fit" for me (The guy at the shoe store said, that if my toes are hitting the front then they are too small)

Thanks everyone!

If they fit, then they're worth every penny. If they don't fit, they aren't.

Well I love my Mavic shoes. They're very well made, and comfortable for me. The retaining system (especially the heel support) is awesome and they look good. And if they're new, $150 is a great deal.

I have the Mavic Avenir MTB shoe, and more recently I got the Mavic Pro Road shoe. I love both because they fit me well and are super comfortable. I got the Pro Road shoes on Bonktown and they have popped up a few more times for around $100. Great deal on a solid shoe. I wasn't hesitant to get them online though since I already knew my size in Mavic.

Thanks for the input guys.

Yeah, the guy said that they're a year old but have only been worn a few times. I'll go and check em out tomorrow and see what they're like. I'm just not going to buy them if my toes are hitting the
edge of the shoe, don't want my feet to be cramped. If I have a little bit of wiggle room I guess I'll be satisfied.

Plus, from what I've read. They're pretty expensive shoes, so I'm ASSUMING that 150$ is reasonable.. right?

The Huez is really a summer only shoe -- your feet will get very cold if you try and run them any other season. I don't find them all that supportive when pulling up. They're very light and they look nice but I don't think they're worth the retail asking price. Thankfully -- they can be found on bonktown for ~ $180 brand new often now.

These were my thoughts as well. The upper is pretty much just a mesh material that isn't very supportive feeling. Not sure how much it matters since most of the power is delivered on the down stroke, but I see no reason for them to be this flimsy. They are also one of the most narrow shoes out there. If you have even a slightly wide foot "fageddaboudit." I'd pass on them, but that's me.

I am new to cycling, and am trying to afford quality gear. I read that everyone is mentioning a site "bonktown" but nothing pulled up when I googled it. Can someone reply with the exact URL. I am looking at shoes, and also saw a relatively priced Mavic Huez for sale, which led me to this forum. But it sounds like it is a snug fit and solely for summer.

When it comes to shoes, is I am a 10.5 US, is there a general rule on how to size yourself.....
Thanks everyone. John
