There's no real way for us to tell you what saddle *your* butt will like. We can however tell you what *our* butts like whether your butt likes it or not tho.

That's why it's best to go to go to your LBS to start you right on the right foot as the cost of ill-fitting saddles piles up really quick.

specialized's body geometry saddles are pretty rad. *most* people will ride a 143mm width saddle by them. try the phenom or romin. both are great. that being said, i just replaced two (one that had 6,000mi on it) romin saddles with a brooks c15 and won't be going back anytime soon!!

It is also good to know how dial in your saddle height/angle/fore-aft positioning. Without that no saddle will ever feel good

Like everyone else has mentioned, saddle fit is purely subjective. However, I find I like both the Fizik Antares and the San Marco Concor Racing.

Second for Specialized saddles, specifically the Avatar and Phenom.

Brooks B17, your pick on style points between Selle Italia Turbo and/or Concor are my favorites. I also have a Bontrager Race Lite on my Trek which my rumpus really likes for some reason.

no such thing as a comfy seat unless you want a cushy pillow, enjoy the saddle sores.

you want FIRM saddle which doesn't pose discomfort. brooks are overrated, ugly, and require "maintenance". they haven't changed for how many years? they're pure nostalgia... dassit.

saddles have come a long way since that brooks ****. invest in something (modern saddles) that'll have you forgetting about a different saddle, forever.

I like the Specialized saddles. I have 4 romans, all in 168 width; perfect for my male childbearing hips.
To reiterate what others have said, go to a shop and see if they have loaner/test saddles, its the best way to find your fit. Your arse is on the saddle for hours on end, that is the one area where no one should skimp to save money.

Free Phenom? That is a hell of a score. I just picked one up slightly used. I like it so much I would buy one at full price.

Yup, I picked up a c15 last month and my taint is very pleased, almost tempted to get another one for the daily ride.

I ride Brooks saddles, and not for nostalgia. I like them because they have an unpadded surface (very firm) but absorb bumps because of their hammock design. Over time, they shape themselve to your body, like your favorite old shoes and jeans do. They haven't changed over the years because they are simple and work well. Maintenance? All I do is sweat on mine. I've never used any conditioning products, and so far, haven't needed to tension mine. But when the time comes, turning a nut 1/2 rotation probably won't take too much time and effort.

I could never go back to a padded saddle.

Looks? Subjective for sure.

Weight? Heavy, no doubt.

until i stumbled upon the specialized toupe my default saddle is a scraped off bontrager.. to the plastic. i agree w/ a very firm surface. modern saddles absorb shock via carbon rails and flexing in the wings. the only benefit i see is adjusting the amount of shock a brooks absorbs.

aside from that they are ugly and heavy. unless it's a bike from the 20s, they single handedly perform the act of medusa on nice bikes.

IMO, the B17 is the wrong saddle for that bike. That bike needs a B15.

Rivet is making some very fine looking saddles that are designed for long hours of riding.

When I'm going 100k+ I use a Selle Anatomica.

BTW don't believe any representation that a leather saddle is "waterproof."

Would it affect the quality of leather saddles if left out in the sun over time?

I bit the bullet and bought a Brooks Swift, with Titanium rails (got a very nice condition used one for $90, less than 1/3 of what a new one costs). The Swift Titanium is the only classic Brooks saddle that weighs under 400g. And my butt loves the fit. Both of my main rides now have classic leather saddles, as my Tommasini has an Ideale model 80 that I've owned for over 35 years, and now the Brooks Swift sits on my Trek Y-foil.

FYI any specialized dealer will have an "ass-o-meter" that will measure your sit bones. after you know your measurement, you can pick any brand saddle with close measurements...which is why I chose the c15 over the c17.

Was on a 130 romin that was too narrow for me, moved over to a 155 toupe that was too wide, and now I'm on a sell italia SLR max flow. I like it so far. Might try a 143 specialized something eventually. I think that width works well for me. I've also wanted to try a smp one day but $$$
