Custom fixed gear project - 21 speed GMC Denali road bike

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Well I'll throw in my 2 cents here and say don't be discouraged. We learn by doing and we all start somewhere.
For whatever it's worth, you can still salvage this build and have yourself a "beater" bike for bad weather or bad moods and still enjoy it. Just thinking out loud here, put the brakes back on. Get yourself a single speed conversion kit and make this thing your knock around bike. We've all had one or two in our days and they can be a fun ride. Even with the kit, you won't have much in it and you can ride the wheels off it while looking for your next build. The key is to have fun and it sounds like you've enjoyed the process so far. Go ahead and get it rolling and have fun with it. Fun is measured in smiles, not miles and I've had a lot of good times on bikes that were far from spectacular.
