Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I took the Shimano SPD CX pedals off my FG bike and put on the Speedplay's from my road bike for about a week. Really enjoyed it regretted buying the SPD's a little.

I'd have more regret except that I sometimes ride the FG bike to the grocery store or for coffee and walking in Speedplay cleats is silly. SPD's were on massive sale too.

Still might go with Speedplay's though. They are light and this...

I have wondered about this. A Speedplay is actually reversed for a typical clipless system in that the the cleat is on the pedal and the retaining mechanism is on the shoe. This makes the bike lighter but if you weigh the whole unit, is it that much lighter than other systems?

Thanks for your service. And I don't suppose there's anything wrong with it, it just strikes me as odd, I've ever only seen SPs on TT bikes except for one guy I know who races track on Zeros. I guess it if floats your boat there's no reason to not go with em.

Just got the new cranks/chainring installed. Bike is greasy/dirty. I'll get better pics when we get some better weather.

even the pedals arent much lighter

the lightest ones are still only 129g, the difference of a quarter pounder from mcdonalds or a mediocre pee

There are many reasons that I like Speedplay Zero's and weight is not one of them. The weight is similar with other pedals if you include the cleats. I ride them mainly for the float and ease of entry/exit. I also like the fact that I've never accidentally unclipped. Once I find a pedal I like I tend to stick with them. I started on Dura Ace/Look's around 1990 and used them for many years up until I bought a used bike in '05 that had Speedplay's. Once I tried them I haven't changed. I'm sure there are other great pedals out there but as of now I see no reason to change.

Did the frame come stripped or did you do the Bianchi logo delete?

How much does it weigh?

I use Jasco stripper to remove the decals. They're under clearcoat so it's kind of a pain.

Not sure about weight. A bike shop put the bike on the scales minus cranks/pedals and it was just about 16.5lbs.

Very unsure of this. QR on the rear? No dropouts and you found the magic ratio or dropouts and you are insane.

Speedplay zeros with a $40 aftermaket spindle weighs 164 according to my WW friends. Even with the 110g cleats, its still lighter than my 275g 5700c pedals and 70g cleats.

I like it with the threaded setup -- nice.

What are you using as your top tube protector?

I have really come to hate the Campag hoods. replacing them with sram soon.
frame pad makes shouldering not so unpleant.

Cleats go down to about 65 grams (IIRC) if you use the thin shim with four hole shoes.

I do believe in the mostly adhered to policy of not bashing any guy's bikes that they post in this thread so I hope you will accept this as constructive criticism...

Considering all the hubub you made about matching gold bits along with the effort and expense of converting it to threaded plus all the other "upgrades" - I don't think this bike came together very well.

You should do yourself a favor and look at franswa's chrome bike - which looks great and has been universally praised around here, to get some ideas on how to maybe rework yours a little.

good luck...

Cut it out you guys. This is NOT the "what don't you like about my bike" thread. If you don't like it, just shut yer pie hole.
