Sub 24 hours. Just a quick overnight trip to get out and ride/camp. The term is used by Grant Petersen of BQ. Another term used by Alastair Humphreys is micro adventure. It's a counter to the time and planning people sometimes need to do a longer bike trip.

I don't know if a couple can have a lasting relationship when one puts the panniers on the front of the bike, the other puts panniers on the rear. I see opportunities for unresolvable differences in culture and never ending arguments <insert chuckle here>.

lol very funny. We have done short tours together, the longer ones i generally do alone. She cant stand bags on front and i was wanting to try a front only setup in preperarion for something next weekend. It worked amazingly well. When the bike is loaded balanced its incredibly easy to steer.

i use it on my way to johnson sauk. Thats usually my first night on my way to chicago or wisconsin.

actually they would only let one of us in the coffee shop so i stayed with the bikes, but around central il, a cheap cable lock will generally do the job.

I did not notice this earlier, but on your orange bike your pump is not parallel with the top tube. I assume you lack a pump peg on that bike. Same on my road bike, but I strap the pump to the top tube a few inches behind the head tube so that the pump is horizontal to the top tube, I am less likely to bump it that way and also the Velcro keeps it attached when I bump it.

i get lots of grief about that. So much so that my son has ordered me a pump peg for the top tube. It never bothers me but it sure bothers everyone else.

For me it fits in with the whole bars, grips thing, and the fact that you're a hippy dippy musician (aren't you the guitarist dude? Just kidding, but honestly I think it looks kinda neat and different, and does fit in with the aesthetic of the bike.

Personally I got tired decades ago of my damn zefal pump falling off during bumpy descents, getting run over by cars, so when I finally packed in the frame pump, I put my leyzene or whatever it is in a pannier or that secure mount on a water bottle mount area

If the pump peg does not work out, try the velcro.



I also have a little square of inner tube rubber between the headtube and pump to protect the paint, but it is a fairly new bike, in a few years I won't worry about the paint that much any more.

Its an 81 912 that i did a 650b conversion on with tektro 559 brakes. I have a new sturdier rack coming today, a tubus. I decided to get the rack after trying this out. I love the front loading. It can be a chore if its unbalanced and when i do a grocery run it usually is a little, but balanced i almost feel like no load. Quick, smooth steering and the rack stiffens up the fork making it actually tour worthy. I use a big minnehaha seat bag, actually called a medium, and two large brooks rear panniers on the front. When going solo i can fit my 1 person big agnes in a pannier as well as my sleeping bag. Ill take a pick when i get the new rack on.

My Road Morph G goes in my left front Ortlieb pannier. I’d post a link, but I’m hesitant to do so.

When touring, my Road Morph G or Lezyne Micro Floor Drive is in a bracket attached to the frame and shares the bolts used for a bottle cage, but I do have a long Zefal along my top tube on my rando bike and road bike.

But a pannier makes sense too, less theft prone and less likely to get a lot of road dust in the pump innards. I used a pannier on a couple trips.
