Decades in waiting, 1989 Fuso FR1

Fuso has always been a bike on my wish list. This one was languishing with no bids which seemed almost criminal so here it now resides. Great pack (thanks so much!) and on re-assembly yesterday it dawned on me that this bike had been ridden very little, if at all, based on wear. At this point I felt the affliction that likely affected the two previous owners, the dreaded "collectible" bicycle paranoia begin to ascend = this is too nice to ride. Fortunately I immediately laughed that off and 1.5 hours later, man oh man what a lively ride. Probably the glorious spring day here, probably the occasional wind at my back but it sure felt like the bike was finally getting to fufill its purpose. Like some patient thoroughbred, it now seemed to effortlessly eat up the rolling miles. These bikes were built to ride and I am very grateful to have found this one. specs below

58 cm stamp, serial# matches 1989 production run. Outfitted with shimano 600 (ultegra 6400) aka tri color on f/r derailleur, biopace crank, hubs, bb, headset, brakes, levers, shifters, araya ctl370 rims, specialized stem/bars, turbo perforated saddle.

dailycommute,

You got a great deal on that bike! You probably know about Dave Moulton's bike registry, but in case you don't and you are interested here's a link:

I thought it was a good deal but it did cycle several times with no bidders. The fuso values are all over but for built up ready to ride (did put new tires, tubes, wrap ,pedals) FR1 w/ tri groupset, it seemed like a no brainer. I did submit to DM registry along with a donation for all he does to keep it up. Well worth liquidating some bikes for. If anything, I would love to find a 59 at some point but would be fine if this was the only one I ever come across.

Never even seen one. That is very special. It looks lively, too.

We were a Moulton/Fuso dealer back in the day. Dave's craftsmanship is the best you'll find.

I forget about these, others do too, the prices of ebay completed transactions are terrific for the buyers, stressful for the sellers.

I too would like to get a Fuso someday. I recently passed (seller and I were 150 dollars apart on price) on a Russ Denny Fuso. It was very nicely constructed but without much in the way of badging. I will keep looking. Congratulations on a very good deal!

Nothing wrong with resurrecting an old thread if it's to show off a beautiful FUSO. Here are my two, an FRX and an FR1

ehh, zombies everywhere man, esp in the "smart" phone era. My fav is the one handed, against traffic biker looking at the phone in other hand....but regarding the Fuso I have yet to find a rider that compares, it is the most stable platform I have ever ridden esp as you bomb downhill, the faster you go the more stable it gets. I did have to build the rear wheel back up as those araya ctl rims are for lightweights (cracked it one day). But for steel frames you would be hard pressed to find a better racing geometry rider. Have not kept on up the Fuso inventory very much lately but a buyers market for any vintage steel for years now, I doubt Fusos are any different. If I could only keep one of the 6 herd it would be the Fuso.

Agreed. I have a John Howard and I consider the frame to be my best.
