If the BB shell (what not clearly seen in the pictures) is a Montello-type shell, than it's a rare piece like this one:

Thanks for pointing out this thread which I did not update after more investigation. Definitely an SL not SLX frame with chainstay bridge and no internal cable route. The chrome fork is a replacement Tange.

It's not the Montello-typ BB shell that is rare on a Montello

Given the paint scheme and the fact that Montello frames got the tribute colors in 1985, late 1984 is the only possible period for my bike. And a special paint on a Record or SuperRecord frame is my opinion.
But I still need a chrome Pinarello fork - all help appreciated in finding one at a not too crazy price. My frame doesn't warrant NOS.

The last Prestiges (what was Montello's predecessor) appear with A. And I've seen Montello with A, and lower numbers than two Prestige's. They were probably manufactured for a short time at the same time. My very early Montello has B.The A-D period, I think, covered 1984, and the Montellos were already manufactured for the '85 marketing year. This fits in with the fact that your SR's D was made after the Olympics, in the end of '84, so it could get the Grewal colors.

What a beautiful bcycle. Your list of bikes is impressive. I love the colors and the bar tape on this one. So I just picked up another 80s Pinarello to complement my Montello. I thought it was a Treviso but looking at the frame, I'm pretty sure its a Record based on the cutouts on the BB lugs leading to the chainstays. Is that the differentiator? Anything else? Why did they need two different Columbus SL models?

Here's my new winter project - a Pinarello Record (I believe from the cutouts on the BB). Came with a set of tubulars (which I'll never use) and MA-40 clinchers on 600 hubs, and a smattering of other parts. Not needing another Pinarello with 8 speed, I've decided to keep this one DT Nuovo Record. I cleaned off the clincher wheels, and gave a light wipe to the fork with tin-foil and WD-40, which easily cleaned off the rust spots but it's otherwise as I received it.

Pinarello montello?
Hello there! New to the forum, ive spent far too many hours browsing forums without being able to pick what seems some very knowledgeable brains.
I've recently purchased what i believe to be an 80s Pinarello Montello (frame only) from ebay. It was the last piece of the puzzle on whats been a long, long project. After looking at it obsessively, ive got some concerns regarding it's authenticity.
Would it be ok to post a few pictures?

It's going to be difficult to explain without photo's, but i can certainly try.
The gear cable runs inside the bottom bracket, with no bridge. (ive read various things regarding that, some stating its a good sign, others the opposite)
The pinarello logo nearest the brake mounts, is under rather than on top (ive seen lower end models like this, but not on any montello model)
The frame was bought at auction, and has been referbished by a company called Bob Jackson cycles in leeds, UK. The seller seems totally legit, looking at past and present frames that are for sale/sold.
Like i said, without photo's or a link, this may seem difficult to go by. I appreciate any feedback or information.
