Check and compare your serial number here: https://www.cadre.org/Merckx/
Are there any pantographs on the seat stays? What is the seat post diameter?

OMG 2 - this is the frame that could be used in the TdF 80 by the Marc - IWC - V.R.D. team (later repainted of course). One of the really few early EMC frames without "signature" on SSC.

Interesting bike as the top of the crown shows Merckx, not the EM logo. The downtube graphics are the italic font, not the "blimpo" font.
And as noted no seat stay cap adornment.

The EM logo on the flat crown of the fork appeared in 1986. The frame was repainted, but the classic Professional sticker was retained. "Empty" seat stay caps (without "signature" or "em") were installed extremely rarely - frames with "signature" were built around 1500, "empty" - a few dozen at most. If the number hanger wasn't "added" on the occasion of repainting the frame and it's original, then the chance is that we are dealing with a veteran TdF 1980...
