Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This thread is more entertaining than a monkey humpin' a football.

* some miles were feverishly uphill, some were coasting downhill. Some were slow & enjoyable. Some were pure sufffering. Some were on a black bike, some on a blue - and yet others on a yellow bike. Some were on a stationary.... but NONE were in the trunk of a car.

I'm glad you are entertained.

It is quite strange that some people get so defensive of their stationary cycling "miles".

Just kidding. Please don't get your bibs all bunched up.
We're like the Cleveland Browns, you know in your heart they don't have the talent but they tease you along ever so sweetly, getting your hopes up , then crash. I stopped watching football for a decade due to the psychic trauma I suffered through in the Sam Ruttigliano years.

Actually I almost never ride indoors, outdoors all year round, rain, snow, dark, light, it's all way better than indoor cycling. Dress right and it's a breeze.

It's good to see that you keep it real

I'm from Boston originally, and took the 2007-2008 Superbowl loss hard, but I learned from it. Why get so upset when a team that you don't play for, and doesn't pay your bills, loses a big game? Life goes on, and I still have my job.

I hate cold weather, so moving here was a no-brainer.

Night riding is great in the stupid hot months of AZ summers, but I only ride at night because I can't find many that enjoys the 115 degree daytime temps.

I love the heat, but it's not for everyone.

That and the fact that the team is not really a team anymore, just a bunch of free agents chasing the highest dollar. That is one reason I like high school and college sports more than pro.

I see you really don't know what you are talking about.

Players choose to play for New England(for less than market value) because they consistently have success.

The Pats are known to be cheapskates, and even Tom Brady isn't the highest paid QB in the NFL. He gets a healthy sum of money(deservedly), but he is actually underpaid if you look at what they make.

Don't feel bad. Most can't stand the heat, but I don't enjoy cycling under 50 degrees. I'll ride, but I'm not happy about it.

I moved away from the cold and snow, and became a cold blooded reptile.

I guess it comes down to why you get on the bike to begin with. Is it to A) see the world, B) improve your cycling / your lungs & legs and get faster, C) monitor how many miles your bike has on it for maintenance considerations D) tell a prospective buyer how many miles you've put on the drivetrain, wheels, etc. or a combination of those? Your goals will determine which miles are important to you and which are not.

To me the main difference is outdoor riding the bike is fun, indoor riding the exercise bike is work. Riding a bike while racing doesn't seem like much fun either, tho I have never done it...

After not riding for five months due to (insert wide variety of excuses here), I was out and about in Southern Tennessee. I did 3000 feet of climbing in less than 30 miles then my chain broke.

So, 28.5 miles so far this year.

Pathetic, yes.

You have to remember that Minnesota's reputation for fine nordic women comes from Iowans and Wisconsinites. The baseline for comparison is, err, modest.

So "hot" is relative, and used generously there?

Where in Tenn?

If you ever get the chance to ride the MRT just north of Memphis, I think you will enjoy the ride.
