Should I snag this 720 tomorrow?

https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/b...935426189.html

he says this discoloration is due to a heat gun used to free the seat post. red flag? the price is suspect for chicago.

i searched the stolen registry and nothing matches.

You can have mine for free. Other than the Trek badge, these bikes have little or nothing going for them. Heavy, sluggish handling, slow. Top tubes are
about two inches too long. You might as well buy a dept store hybrid and save a few pounds.

One the bright side, they take wide tires, use 700c wheels, and it would be easier to unload than a Firenze with flat tires, a dented top tube, and a rusty chain.

That "discoloration" is severe, what's their explanation for it being on the seat stay, top tube and even fork? Something is wrong with the back wheel as well, maybe it's just dirt.

Pass

yep, i just texted him and said sorry but gonna pass. his explanation was a heat gun used to dislodge the seat from the seat tube -- might not be using the right terms there.

the appeal, puma, is a 720 is a upgrade to my 700. i like trek 700 series. yeah, they are a little heavy but they're comfortable and nimble for a hybrid. their 21" frame also fits me extremely well.

i'll continue to keep an eye out.

thanks, all, for the guidance.

Good call. There's more than the seat tube discoloration going on there. And if you're going to get a mid-90's Multitrack, might as well get one with a nice paint job. I love my Singletrack's dry ice blue (really purple) to dry ice green fade.

tough market for bikes? did you want a mountain bike? because that is not a mountain bike. if you're looking for a good used but real inexpensive hybrid, this one is reasonable

https://southbend.craigslist.org/bik...936397846.html

the other Trek FXs are a bit for $$

https://chicago.craigslist.org/searc...ek+fx&hasPic=1

& this older bike might be something you can work with for little $$?

https://rockford.craigslist.org/bik/...940533928.html

this is an odd duck but looks kinda clean & it's cheap

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/b...932975950.html

this is a good brand. looks like they added a tall stem which you can either lower or change I guess

https://rockford.craigslist.org/bik/...935541106.html

have you looked at bike co-ops in your area?

thanks for the suggestions, rumrunn6. i do already have a bike that i love. was shopping to shop. also, my reality exists within a 25 mile radius of the loop. lands outside that radius are only accessible with magic tickets. and those tickets are expensive.

they are cool looking. mine got a custom job during pride month ...

stain from paper streamers that were covering my bike one morning. about all washed off now from riding in the rain. i enjoyed the look while it lasted. i've since updated the original trek matrix tires to 28mm slicks -- recommended by the mechanic after a flat -- and i love them.

let's see yours?

We have a few Multitracks around here because I’m pretty sold on their usefulness and quality. We have a 730 and 720 from China and a 730 made in the US. The US 730 is a nicer bike than the Chinese one. If you’re looking to upgrade from your 700, I’d look for a US 730 or 750. I’m not convinced anything less would make the upgrade worthwhile. I don’t have the model years in front of me, but you can look them up in the old catalogs.
