The Explorer Program returns May 5, 2023! Get out and explore your park! There are so many activities to do, and the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail and the Cuyahoga River conveniently runs parallel to the train tracks.
Whether you’re biking, kayaking, running or hiking through the park, you can flag down and board the train at our Akron Northside, Botzum, Indigo Lake or Peninsula stations throughout the day and ride back for a one-way fee or by using your Explorer pass when you board.

Update on trail conditions:
Crews repaired the frost-heaved pavement between Brecksville and the Frazee House entrance. If you've ever ridden this portion, you know just how unpleasant it is. In addition to the pavement repair, new crushed limestone was added in heavily rutted areas. This repair had been overdue for at least 3, probably double, years.
The towpath is closed in that stretch again today to August 4th to tie up a few loose ends.
Worth getting out there after August 4th and checking it out, if you're in the area.

I haven't been that early, but nice summer weekends get quite busy. Much of the trail is fantastic, but I especially like the section between Boston and the Ira trailhead. It contains the boardwalk, the section alongside and crossing the river at Peninsula, and Beaver Marsh.

mixed bag for us
don’t mind and at times prefer rides on the crushed limestone surfaces - but the dust during the hotter / drier times of the year results in a heavy amount of nasty dust on everything
so we try to avoid the crushed limestone rides as much as possible when it is dry and dusty
the crushed limestone paths take rain fairly well - so a ride a day or two after a rain is typically much better than a ride after days of no rain
paved paths can be very good until they heave due to roots or temp fluctuations including freeze / thaw - then they can become a problem
late this fall we rode the Allegheny River trail in western PA - the section down near Emlenton is lifted in large portions including some fairly significant nasty heaves / lifts - with leaf cover it was a real challenge and grew to the point of being trying
back to the dust - the Montour trail (western PA) is one of the worst offenders - nasty - not sure why (age or composition of the crushed limestone surface ?) - in our experience worse than the CVNP towpath and Lebanon Valley trail in central PA
