SE MI:Feedback sought on proposed HCMA trail connections
Macomb County has a great trails network and Huron-Clinton Metroparks is looking to make it better.
What do you think?
Imagine the experience residents of southeast Michigan can have once all 12 Metroparks are connected by non-motorized trails.
As survey participants will see, most of the routes in the connectivity study utilize public land, public right of way or easements, reducing the need for obtaining new property, but each one will still have challenges to overcome by working with partners in the communities.
Following the survey and before the end of the year final routes will be selected
That’s the question the Metroparks are seeking with the launch of a new interactive webpage designed to capture feedback from residents across southeast Michigan regarding multiple proposed routes. These include connecting Lower Huron Metropark and the Interstate-275 Metro Trail, Hudson Mills to Huron Meadows Metroparks, Kensington to Indian Springs Metroparks, Indian Springs to Stony Creek Metroparks and Wolcott Mill Metropark to Macomb Orchard Trail.
Having the public weigh in on the proposed routes will help to ensure a safe and fun trail experience for everyone on the trails, whether they are walking, running, cycling, or just taking in the great outdoors.
Joining in the discussion is easy.
Just visit walkbike.info/metroparks/.
The survey will be conducted through October.
“On the interactive site, you will see those multiple scored routes as well as a single proposed route for each connection,” Mauter said. “We are looking for the public to review the maps and proposed routes and provide input on what they like and dislike about those proposed routes as well as the importance of that connection to the individual user. This feedback will help us determine if the proposed route is the best selection or if we should adjust the proposed route.”

I'm unable to view the maps but it sounds like it would be a good start for cycling infrastructure.
images showing the routes would help aid in viewing from mobile devices.
Also, if the routes are paved, then that increases the likelihood of it being used by actual cyclists & not just walkers runners with strollers & animals.
the paint creek trail is a prime example. The gunk that messes up the derailleurs as well as the kickup that masks the lights/reflectors is not good for a safe commute.
