So it's a thing! My wife asked me how long this bike should be expected to last and I said (innocently) what do you mean?

I've had the last one for 5 years and I'm still riding it, they don't expire.

Oddly, this is the first brand-new, complete bike I've purchased since 1992 (and I still have that one too - just put 105 on it and as soon as I cable it up, it's ridable)

It's cheaper than chasing women, that's for sure.

I bought a new inexpensive Trek 850 MTB in 1996 (still have it). Last new bike for me before that was 1971. So I was due for a brand new one too!

I’m “terrible”about buying new....all my bikes have been new.

My first road bike since my 1984 Trek 500 was purchased the day before my 47th birthday - 4/2012. That is Bike I promptly damaged frame and had to replace two months later.

Gonna get some road wheels for the Niner, it will make a very nice road bike, especially rolling with 32mm tubless tires. Loving the 38s running at 50/60 psi F/R.

The Roubaix is maxed out with 25s (measure 28mm inflated on my wide rims). I've got new bar tape, cables and housing tee'd up for it, just have to install. Back wheel was new in December, I replaced the crankset, BB and cassette last spring. She's still rolling!

Really? I have 28mm tubeless (and that's about what they measure) on my roubaix and there's still tons of room. Of course, it's not the same year bike either. I imagine if you put smaller tires on your niner it will behave much more like a roadie. Remember the days of 19mm tires pumped up to 130? Blech.

I have a new chain, new bartape and a new BB ready to go in, just need to find time. Good thing I have a spare now.

Wonder if we can set up a Clyde/Athena Oceanside ride? I know @TrojanHorse does this ride practically weekly with @tunavic and his pals...but I enjoy these rides with my fellow So Cal Clydes (never seem to get any Athena's but me)

Out of curiosity, what kind of tires, rims and pressure are you running 28 tubeless? It's a new world for me so looking for real world data points.

Yeah, I've had the tape, cables and housing since last July, but didn't want to take the bike offline.

Before I bought the Roubaix, my last road bike (1971 American Eagle Semi-Pro) ran 27" x 1-1/8" tires. I think the narrowest I ever used were 27" x 1", Mitchell Road clinchers from Australia back in the early '70s.

Easton EA90SL which are a little wide but not super wide, Hutchinson Secteur 28 (and they measure about 28 on my rims) and I usually keep them at about 80 psi, which is damn comfy. They're on my wife's bike now and I have a set of ultegra wheels with Schwalbe Pro 1 tires (28mm) that I probably need to wait until I get my roubaix off the trainer to try out. Which means i need to finish cabling the old Bianchi. Life intervenes, dammit. I have some older Reynold's carbons on my new bike with 25mm tires inflated to 100-110 and there is *no* room for larger tires on that frame.

So my wife is starting a new diet lifestyle change deal ... and I'm heartily encouraging her. She suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and fibromialgia and is definitely carrying more weight than she should, and is comfortable doing, so I'm hoping she's successful. As a show of support I've committed to eating better too, so here's to weight loss. A fair warning, the first couple of weeks for me are the worst and I'm crabby as hell

Thanks for the warning!!! 😉. I’m sorry to hear about the RA. My mom has had it since she was 15....and she’s 75 now. It has attacked every joint in her body, and she has artificial joints in both hands. I have seen her go through so much. Hopefully the doctors have something that is helping her. 👍🏻

Second Nor'Easter in less than a week starts tonight. Charged the batteries the headlamp. Kindle and phone will be fully charged by tonight. If the power goes out, cooking will not be a problem since I use gas. Two warm sleeping bags. Need to make sure I have plenty of wine around. Walking home from work tomorrow should be interesting. Heaviest snow is predicted between noon and 5 p.m.

Bourbon is better in a power outage while a nor-easter is blowing. With wine, you'll be getting out of your nice warm bag more often.

Looked to be a bust, but things are now deteriorating rapidly. Temp has dropped. Wind has picked up. Roads quickly become covered. One of two people in the office today. Think I will head home while (hopefully) the busses are still running. If they are not, it's going to be a 1.75 mile walk into a driving, heavy snow.
