I've seen several artists' conceptions of bicycles where the chain ring was on one side of the bike and the rear sprocket was on the other side. Somewhere in between, the chain seemed to pass through the spokes. I saw one example of this engineering marvel on the wall of our local Panera Bread restaurant.

How accurate do you have to be with a children's book to convey that it's a bear on a bicycle? A crankset and two wheels are sufficient for most pre-school children.
What's next? Criticizing Rebour drawings because none of his wheels in his illustrations have spokes? Or that some of his freewheels mysteriously float in in the air, without being attached to hubs?
Personally, I like the drawing. It's a Draisienne with a crankset and no chain. The inaccuracies only enhance the intended whimsical nature.
