Just finished building my new Black Mountain Cycles Road bike.
Full 105 5800 groupset
Tektro R539 calipers
Chris King headset
Salsa seat post collar
Ritchey Classic bars, stem, and seat post
Selle Italia Flite saddle
Mavic Open Pro/Shimano 105 wheelset
Panaracer Pasela 32s (hopefully replacing soon with Compass 32s)
My first ride was today. 30 miles, and it rides great. Can't wait to put a lot more miles on it this summer.

Fantastic looking bike! Love the silver component selection.
Wish the shimano cranks were still 5arm, but what can ya do.
I have often wished the road frame came in a larger size like the cross frame. I would love to try one out.

That looks good!
Since you are in WI, have you considered Ben's version? More $ though!
Plus, can anybody tell me the weight of the bare frame, sans fork and headset?

I'm interested.
Not quite sure if the geometry would work for me.As I have a very long torso for my height. And slopping top tubes bikes fit me the best without going custom.
But I plan to contact Mike sooner or latter and chat about my interested in his frames and bikes.
I need to do some more online fit measurements first..etc.
So Any updates?

I had a Gunnar Roadie before my BMC bike and I prefer it to the Gunnar.
Here a couple of pics from my BMC's on rides in the last month:

I cracked my rear RR440 about 5,200 miles in. Joe Young built me a new wheel using the old hub with the TK540 rim. They are wider and about 100 grams heavier. Hopefully, strong enough for me.
The 4Seasons are 28mm. My first foray into 28mm road tires. I'm digging it. Between the steel, seatpost, wide rear rim and 28mm tires with lower pressure, this is one smooth rolling bike that doesn't sacrifice a ton of speed.

The last reason is a little silly, the BMC "sounds" like steel. If you strike your fingernails on the top tube of the BMC, you get that familiar steel ring noise that is sort of ubiquitous in 4130-based tubesets. The Gunnar didn't have that for some reason that I still don't understand. Really minor thing, but I like the rare occasion on a ride when a cable slaps against a tube and makes that signature steel ping sound when riding. Silly I know, but it factors in for me.
Plus I like Mike's style as well. One man brand sort of deal is cool, I think.

Bumping and old thread - anyone got photos of a Black Mountain Road+ (Road Plus)? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger but interested to see what they look like built up. Hardly any photos on the web.
Edit: bought the frame (ultra violet). Will slowly be building up wheels and the full kit. Expect photos in coming months.

Havent seen this thread in a long time! Good stuff, here is an update of my Black Mountain MC frame.
Top pic is one of the last rides where it was my gravel bike after 3.5 years of use.
Bottom pic is the what it is now- built for commuting/touring/family neighborhood riding.
Its such a well designed frame that fits nice, I wanted to make sure I kept it in use. It now has a 3x9 drivetrain with bar end shifters, fenders, and a rear rack. A front rack will then be added to carry bags for regional touring.
The pic in new form confirms what Ive felt over the first handful of rides, I need to drop the hoods down a bit.

Very nice looking Monster Cross - a real "do anything" bike. The silver components look especially nice. I agonized over whether to get the MC or the Road frame, and went for the Road. Here it is in a terrible photo, built up with what I had on hand. Eventually I plan to go with some wider gearing the the Campy 10 speed offers, but for now it's good on the roads around here (flat to low hills).
The bars and brake levers have been lowered since this was taken.

Monstercross frame size
Hi all. Does anyone know what size Dr Lha’ s green Monstercross frame is? I’ve not been on the forum long enough to be allowed to message directly.
Some lovely bikes on here.
thanks
Andrew

Wonderful, thank you!
Any idea of your saddle height in that photo? Mine is 795 from centre of bottom bracket to top of saddle, measured in line with seat tube.
Cheers from (very cold) Surrey Hills, England.
