What is a 2008 Trex FX 7.3 worth?
I finally got my Trek 7.3 together and looking at putting it on Craigslist sometime this week. It is a 2008 in excellent condition except for some scratches (Trek must have had horrible paint that year).
Any idea what it is worth?

We bought one for my daughter for $100 at a flea market. However, I am fairly certain we didn't get the original wheels. So I would suggest that as a lower bound.

Grab a dart board and toss a few darts. Price it on whatever number you hit more than once. There- thats as useful as BBB.

BBB does tend to underestimate the price for most, if not all, used bikes. It's rare that you can buy a bike at or around the BBB values, and if you do find one close to it, run don't walk to it.
My estimate was based on my own anecdotal experience from browsing the ads around here for the past few years on a regular basis. But it really depends on the market.

Often times I find BBB very useful, if only for their original MSRP values. This bike sold for $570 new. Given it's close to 10 years old now and is a very entry level bike, I'd price it around 150. 200 if it's pristine and EVERYTHING WORKS AS NEW.

Of course bikepedia or the brand's website archives have this info and typically a lot more.
The actual reason for BBB's existence, the value segment, is completely useless. It wildly undervalues bikes as they age and it doesnt take season of year, location, or current comparable inventory into account. These 3 things are vital to accurately valuing a bike(or really any used product). Lets not get into frame size affecting value.
That website existing is worse than if it didnt.
But yeah, it often has MSRP.

I ended up selling it for $175. It is a Trek Fx 7.2 not 7.3 so I guess I did not do to badly.
Buyer was willing to pay $200. Thought that was my asking price on craigslsit but I didn't want to lie to him.
Seemed like a nice young mad just starting out so I am glad he got a nice bike for a decent price.

The bottom line is: regardless of what any guide says or what anybody else thinks, you still have to find a buyer who both agrees with that value and who has that much money.
I remember once posing a similar question to my dad. His advice was to pull a number out of my head. A month from now, if you still have it, your price was too high. If you sold it, your price was too low.
