A few days ago I scored a Medici Pro Strada on CL for $200. Any idea on what it may be worth?

I don't know the year, but the serial number is 54-02661 so it's a 54cm frame.

The seatpost, stem, brake calipers, crankshaft and rims are not original.

Is it worth restoring? I was even thinking of converting it to a single speed if not.

That is a real good deal. I bought one last year for $335 and I felt that I had scored big time. I just rode mine today and I love the bike. It’s your bike ,you can do what you want with it but it looks great the way it is. Mine is mostly Campagnolo Nuovo Record but different years so not entirely original . Keep in mind that a lot of Medici bikes were sold as frame sets. Also a lot of people upgraded or modified them to suit .

I'm definitely going to add a quill stem. I also want a vintage Campy seatpost, crankset and calipers for starters.

I'm more excited about the lugged steel frame though.

Great bike in the current market the price is fair don't expect sell for more any time soon. That said it's great bike worth riding that you got a good price so I would say ride and enjoy for now. As for setup I hate the current bar stem setup second rate thread less adapter set a bit to high for the frame set with a bit too long lesser stem and bars and the bar tape is just yuck for this bike.

At that frame looks beautiful! you could restore it to its original Glory with the original components. you do not need to restore the frame - it looks mint!

I mean, if your intention is to ride it, I would leave it as is. Grease and lube everything up, true the wheels and call it a day. It's got the whole shelf of components, so I wouldn't worry about restoring this one to original all too fast...

SurferRosa is right I didn’t see the nutted brakes on your bike. I know that people do that but I would go with recessed mount brakes if you are planning to change them anyway. For what you paid for a bike that rides as well as these do , you can set this up the way you want. I am kind of a Campy guy so NR or SR front and rear derailleurs and SR shifters. This being a later Tange frame I guess the Cyclone hubs and Araya wheels are somewhat in a good place. The bar and stem maybe Cinelli or 3ttt. I am not sure of the difference from the early Columbus tube bikes to the later Tange tube bikes as far as ride goes , but , again this bike should ride like a bike that is well above what you paid for it. The more I ride mine the more I love it. After all, ain’t that why we buy these classics?

Originally, about 90% of the components are Campy SR, and the crankset NR. So I will slowly get it back to that. It's also supposed to have a black Medici quill stem and saddle, but anyone willing to sale those is asking quite a bit of money so I will go with Cinelli for now on those 2 parts.

that would be my ambition as well. Mine came with a Cinelli black anodized stem but it is not pantographed. Someone put some nice GB bars on it and I like them. If I find some Super Record derailleurs that are affordable I will change the Nuovo Record over. I already have the correct Super Record chain rings I just haven’t put them on yet, I am having too much fun riding the bike! You are going to love the bike as soon as you get it set up the way you want it. Because of the whole Masi/ Confente debacle the bike doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Rest assured, it is a thoroughbred. Joe I just noticed that spec sheet is from the earlier bike like mine , yours would be slightly different

I agree. Those that know definitely agree the Medici's are solid and worth the purchase. Unfortunate story behind the scenes, but the build quality on them were just as solid as Masi or Confente, minus the few that ended up with crappy paint jobs. Confente's have the value they do because he didn't build that many, plus his untimely death at such a young age. I really like the way this bike feels though. It's also a solid piece of the Masi/Confente/Medici history so I doubt if I ever get rid of it. The frame alone is damn near immaculate. What they costs new back in the day is like spending $3k+ on a bike today.

It is beautiful as it sits, except maybe those brakes. I don't think anything needs restored other than, as mentioned, a good overhaul for fresh grease.

It is always possible someone bought this as a frame only and built it with what they had.

You scored, USA made Mathauser brakes and pads. Mavic SSC crank and chainring. I would keep that unique stuff over Campy. I imagine those brakes could bring $$$.

Thanks for the info! How can you tell the chainring is Mavic SSC? I can only find Mavic on the arms. You also are saying these Scott Superbrakes are worth some $$$ ? I am still learning and familiar with some parts but never heard of these brakes. Again, thanks for the info.

@VS3 the color. Some did have SSC on them. And some even had the same color caps with SSCstamped on them.

On snap, you are right! Just did a Google search and found good info on the brake calipers and pads. My front set is missing the "SS" cap that's recessed in the bolt, but the back has it. Being that they are serious relics that go for a couple hundred, I just may remove them since I can replace them with vintage Campy's for less than $75.
