Sandblasting a rear cassette hub???
Hello,
It looks like all the hubs I want are black, I want a grayish=gray, sliver, polish, raw color hub.
I know that for something to be sandblasted, it has to be all metal.
If I take this hub to be sandblasted would it still function as normal?

Is it paint or anodizing?

Contact a sandblaster as you don't want to use sand as the blasting media.
You can't find a single hub in silver that fits your purposes?

If it's anodized, you can remove it with a lye solution (or some oven cleaners). Then you have to do a bunch of work to polish it up. Sand blasting will leave a rough surface that would then have to be sanded with successively finer grits and then polished. Much work my friend - are you sure that you want to do this?

I recall someone here turned off the disk mounts from a Deore hub and polished it to make a classy looking high flange hub. I'm sure I won't find it quick though.

White Industries and Phil Wood offer polished hubs, Industry Nine offers a anodized silver as does Chris King (they also do a matte slate and maybe Pewter still) and Hadley and all those options are excellent and Made in the US. Velo Orange, Hope, Suzue, Velocity and All City offer silver ano or polished hubs. Shimano does various greys and silvers. There are probably a ton of others I have left out as well. Why waste time and money to sandblast when you can get a really high quality hub already polished out or go with various cheaper options in silver, polish or grey.

I'd be quite concerned about the sandblasting making the bearing cups rough.

Why not try powder coating? Of actually a ceracoat similar to that used on armaments and other products. They could match the color of the front. The mask off the spoke holes wmight take a while and be a PITA. Not masking would allow the pressure to chip and wear the paint in the holes. There is heat cured and no heat types of ceracoating.
Just an idea
