You guys still commuting... to work?
I'm not, until further notice... maybe in April things will start to stabilize and I'll go back. But going in and out of NYC every day started to seem imprudent.
The biking is fine, of course, but the train is another matter.

Commputing starting Thursday.
My job is calling it "telework" which is not the same word or words most people use. Thought that was weird. I mean, not as weird as... everything

As of two days ago, my wife and I are both WFH until further notice, and our kids' preschool is closed, so they're home with us too.
I already miss the daily bike commutes.
I'm praying that this isn't the new normal for months on end, but we'll see...........

I hope it ends immediately, but we all know better. The governor (CA) said he expected te school year to be over in LA and I'm expecting the same for Orange County where I reside. Our government just banned all outside gatherings unless the grouping was for an essential purpose.

Bikes: The same GT Outpost Mountain bike I've been riding since 1996, although I modify it throughout the year for commuting, touring, and recreational riding.

Just as work was getting so unfulfilling that I was counting the days to bike commuting season, they sent us all home for, at least, two weeks. Now, even just going back to work sounds appealing.

I'm facing being evacuated from E-Asia back to DC, where I'll be locked in a 2 bedroom hotel room for 2 weeks minimum with a very nice lady in the third trimester of her third pregnancy (in 4 yrs) along with a 1 yrd old with a broken leg (has to be carried everywhere and is miserable b/c of it) and a typically rambunctious 3 1/2 yr old who has just learned how to ask 'why?!' with every breath. Both boys of course. And oh yea, they're both used to having a 1 acre yard with a 10ft wall around it, in a gated walking/bike path neighborhood with more than 10 (yes 10) separate playgrounds, 300 other kids, and a full size grocery store 5 minutes away. The new hotel room will have zero of those things to keep them occupied.
And my office is going to produce busy work to make sure I'm gainfully employed. Yes - I want to commute!

Here in Seoul, this has been daily life for 2.5+ months... and it's just starting everywhere else. The end is not in sight. It's like pulling a tendon and blowing through all your spares on the 2nd day of what was supposed to be a 20-day tour that you now realize might take twice as long or never end!

^^^ South Korea seems bad because it hit early but they are going to get a pretty good handle on it because they are testing a lot and their only land border is ... well, you know.

on mandatory work from home for 5 weeks, cat's happy, wife less so with me underfoot
Part of the whole San Jose/San francisco shelter at home....but my work had dictated it a week before.
am trying to add a noon or 5 pm ride, but didn't realize just how much ride discipline commuting gave me

Office requires us to work from home as of today. I was enjoying the commute by car the past few days, but now will go in once a week on my assigned day. As a multimodal commuter by car and bike, it was impossible to justify spending 45 minutes to an hour each way on the bike portion when I could drive the same route by car on traffic-free roads in 15 minutes. Usually the bike ride portion is only 15-20 minutes longer vs. driving in traffic, and of course is far more enjoyable. When driving is only 15 minutes and riding takes a half hour or 45 minutes longer each way, I’ll take the opportunity to ride after work on the C&O Towpath for an hour instead of the usual commute route.

We went WFH on Monday. My SO was volunteering in the schools, so that's done as well.
The extra fun is that I'm on a temporary research gig and away from my home base for a while. Since the gig included a nice office with a great setup for doing work, I didn't bring any home office stuff along. My SO and I brought only the necessities - bikes, music gear, three cats, and a dog. Everything else got dumped in the garage so we could rent out the house.
So now I'm WFH in a house with no furniture and a bunch of animals running around. Somehow I did this all through grad school - guess it's time to relive my youth! I'm just grateful that I can still ride (and play music, though quietly, because the neighbors are WFH too.)

Was contemplating starting my 1 day a week bike commute on Fridays but our biz is taking a huge hit. Good news Fridays off bad news only getting paid 80% of my salary. If schools don’t reopen will likely lose my job entirely. I’ve been on unemployment before so I know the drill & I have a 2nd job that can reduce my benefits but also extends them. Meaning I get less but I get it longer. However the 2nd job is at a major home improvement center which has no controls over personal contact. Nothing like a nice solitary office job w little human interaction. The more I work at the 2nd job the more likely I am to get sick & create problems at home. Daughter lost her temp teaching job & wants to come back to our modest condo w boyfriend in tow. Wifey, a teacher has been sent home & is stressed my her out of state mom w progressing dementia & is not allowed to visit her. Had the pleasure of having to deal with someone’s lack of consideration last night

also found out a new guy on the overnight shift only 27yrs old is in the hospital with “a flu”
When I got home, took my clothes off outside rolled them in a ball & came in naked except for underwear. Washed the load & washed up. not really looking forward to going back there

As every adult/supervisor/ex-partner, etc. in my life has always told me - it's all my fault.

speculating that things will be edgy until early july (unfortunately) when it really starts to ramp up tempwise in many parts of the us. plan for the worst...hope for the best.
i pray that my uncanny penchant for being incorrect is correct (on the late side) as always.

Reading this thread gives me some hope in humanity.
Herd immunity might take awhile though, perhaps all of 2020 and beyond.
I'm fortunate that I planned on taking this year off anyway, its going to be a staycation instead of a vacation.

I'll be cycling to work from home starting Monday. No more daily 26 mile round trip commutes for me. What I'll probably end up doing is an extended lunch, and head out for a few hours and finish up any work in the evenings a few days/week and longer rides at the weekend.

I am a teacher and I have been told that the school will be closed for the rest of the year. However, we are expected to make our classes into on-line classes and to work our normal hours, from home.

Yes, still riding. We have been encouraged to work from home, but with most colleagues doing it, the office is almost empty. I use some specialist software (Autodesk Civil 3D) which I don't have at home; while I'm also encouraged to take the work computer home and connect to the work servers from there, I still haven't tried it, partly in fear of something not working properly (high chances, as usual with new setup), partly because I'm sure I'm way more productive in a nearly empty office than in the comfort of my home. Plus I don't have large format plotter at my home, which I'll need soon enough.

on the plus side, once i get my new routine settled and the weather cooperates, I plan on doing a ride and noon in lieu of commuting
and I got upgraded to having a catmin assistant

Now if you could train the cat, you could kick back and let it do the work. But unfortunately cats are impossible to train.

Hey, at least it's something to do.
