but, but, but.........
How do you know if a bike is excellent without riding it for a while?, hopefully with your own comforting cockpit essentials.
Recently Bought an AD Vent Noir (f+f) for comparison to my AD Olympian, even though the framesets are similar. (They may be identical, but unconfirmed). And I NEEDED an AD mixte for wifey!
And the recent Frejus buy was just for a couple of parts, but ya know - after a little clean-up - this frameset looks like it might just be a good rider!?!
I’m in the same place with @non-fixie - about 20 riders, almost all drop handlebar roadies - seems about right for now.
But no more than that, as the tire budget is out of control!
Vent Noir in smoked chrome
AD Michelle for the wife, or me if she doesn’t take to it. Pic is as purchased, before BF seller removed the few bits he needed for another build. Some changes will be needed.
Frejus - the technomic stem is there only for a photo. Expected to become the fendered wet day bike.
Hopefully, these 3 will get re-assembled in a ‘Wildwood configuration’ and make my sig line.

These days, it has to be a lot better than 'decent' quality to get $150 from me. My real problem is people keep saying, "Hey - you want this bike for free?" and I say "Yes." They always seem to have a great saddle, or interesting components I've never played with before...

Well, the original post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I see nothing wrong with passion for a hobby as long as it's not obsessive to the point that other qualities of life go lacking. At the moment my extra funds are needed for other things. Plus, I'm running out of storage space.
I guess I'm just getting more picky about what I want, or about what I'm willing to spend. Sometimes, like @Wildwood, I'll buy a bike just to see what it's like: the Rourke, for example. I also bought the large Ciocc to see if I could make it rideable, and what the fit would be like. (It's a 60cm frame and 54-55 is typically my best size.) I picked up a couple of bikes fairly cheap earlier this year for parts donors, but have not broken them down yet. I also bought the Raleigh Pro this year. It's unique, in my mind. Not something one sees every day.
So, I'm not completely done with the collection, as haphazard as it may be.
If it matters, I confess to scanning the area CL ads every day. You know. Just in case a rare bird appears. That's where I discovered the Raleigh, and the Torpado.
Carry on.

Nothing is wrong with you, I come and go with obsessed searching/acquisition. Rational usually wins and I give in to the fact that time/space/money is not really on my side for N+1. But if I part with a bike, or stumble upon something I really like, then all of that goes out the window.

Funny you should say that. It is the one thing that has been bothering me lately: I buy a $100 bike and the first thing I do is add another $100 worth of tires. And usually for no other reason than that the ones it came with are black. A good reason, of course, but still ...

Let it flow.. even if you miss a smokin' deal, all that really means is somebody else out there scored a smokin deal. Somebody who may have otherwise not been able to afford to enjoy such a bike. Which isn't a bad thing.

A couple of years ago I made a rule that I would not buy entry level stuff anymore, no stem shifters, no safety levers no Hi-ten main tubes etc as I came to the conclusion that it took the same time and effort to refurb a entry level bike as a nicer one. That has cut down on the acquisition but not stopped it.
I had a goal of getting down to 4 bikes by the fall. I started with 9 bikes in the spring, bought a Rock Hopper for a deal, bringing me to 10, sold 5 this summer, and had/have a sixth on CL to get me to my goal. And then a BF member offered me a screaming deal on on an Allez in my size I could not pass up, since it came to me with no wheels that created another bike purchase so I could harvest the wheels and I might have purchased one more -a Novara MTB -that was a deal that I think I can double my $$ on. So here I am with 8 bikes, sigh, but 3 of them are on CL and with any luck I am down to my goal of 4 Plus the Allez (5) by the end of the year.
I am going to Spokane for a visit in a couple weeks wonder if there are any deals on the east side of the mountains...?

Update: Got lucky with the Fuji seat post. It's still stuck, but at the length I typically use! Going to make it my gravel bike, once I'm able to work on it. Pics and a thread coming soon. Thanks @hazetguy!

Nothing wrong with you. I need some personal interventions at times of late. I just bought a GB vintage stem and handlebar combo because it was cool. No idea what to do with it. Probably attach it to the wall art bicycle wall I am constructing.
I DO enjoy getting what I think is a bargain frame and building it up with the extra parts I have, then only to find I have more extra parts.
After the Faggin and Cassani, I think it is time to sell off unused parts...

It is always wise to practice N+1 discipline. I know of N+1ers that seem to have a new acquisition every couple of months, and it could certainly get pretty ugly,........unchecked.
I have two project bikes right now that are on hold and I don't find it hard not to look at bikes for sale till I can get at least one of them, completed.....but also being between jobs help keep the N+1 urges in check.
Fortunately (or unfortunately?) a couple of job offers will be coming in this week!
