I think I was in pretty good shape then, too. Not like now.

This year's Cino is going to be a bit a bereavement tour for me, as well. My favorite drunk uncle passed in April, my favorite gay drunk uncle passed two weeks ago and then my mother just last Thursday. Yes, they were all over 80 years old and in failing health for quite some time, so, not a great shock, but Jeez Louise! An entire generation gone in a couple months. Also, I'm officially out of a job after Labor Day. The business I've been running for the last 15 years is closing down, building to be demolished starting after Sep 15. An eventful summer, to say the least.

I'd better get my ass over to Montana this September, just for a breather.
Sorry to hear about the passing's and the upcoming job loss @Lascauxcaveman my contract is up in early September so I can relate to the Job angst.

I hear that, I'm near 80 myself, but at my best riding shape for years. This may be my last chance for an "epic" ride. PX10 will probably have a different crank and new Gravel Kings that just came. I'm going to put up a thread on the PX10 and another new to me bike, (91 Trek 520). With some interesting recent ride times over the same measured course. Don

OK, I've registered for this thing today. If anyone from the Seattle/Tacoma area wants to talk carpooling, I'm all ears; send me a PM. I did the trip with @Wildwood a couple years ago. He will attest that I'm a strong, silent, most excellent driver kinda guy.

I can attest that the Caveman and all the other BFers I’ve met here are righteous dudes!

There’s still an opportunity to get a jersey if you are interested too - we had to order a minimum and that meant a handful of extras. Let me know if you’re interested.

I hope everyone is getting their bikes and legs ready for Cino. Less than a month away now!

I had a Cino tune up ride with Bob yesterday in the Cascade mountains.
We got a late morning start in the town of Roslyn and rode East past the town of Cle Elum on quiet back-roads to the Teanaway River Valley which we followed Westward.
When we reached the end of pavement, Bob whips out his phone and uses some screen shots he’s taken of a route he’d mapped out on google to navigate our way back on old logging and forest service roads.

Navigation off of one of Bob's screenshots of Google maps. by NBend, on Flickr

None of these old roads were numbered and we didn’t have cell reception so this was the best we could do. We ended up on some dead end spurs a few times and had to turn around

We needed machetes to get through this old road by NBend, on Flickr

One of the better roads by NBend, on Flickr

We eventually found an encouraging sign that confirmed to us we were heading in the right direction

An encouraging sign we are on the right track by NBend, on Flickr

Soon afterwards we met up with some motorcyclists who were finishing up a day of riding and they told us we were on the right road that would take us back to Roslyn. Reaching pavement, we rode past Lake Cle Elum and were soon back in Roslyn eating sandwiches and drinking beer at the Brick tavern. It was a fun and adventurous day, the loop was a bit under 40 miles.

Looks like you're still giving love to the Woodrup! Will that be your Cino bike?

Nope. Too bulky to stuff in the Fit. Bringing 3 bikes for Cino and Coppi the week after for something to display in the bike shows..

It fits by NBend, on Flickr

Will probably ride the Singer..

With only days left, we have to make final preparations for the Cino Heroica.

Registration will be closing this Saturday at 6:00 PM.

Register here now to ensure your passage through time in the event that brings you what no other does:
  • Riding vintage bikes through the backroads of Montana
  • A chance to meet, talk, and ride with bespoke-builder Dave Kirk
  • Local food that is out of this world
  • Exquisite suffering in style!
Remember that we are also holding a Concours d'Elegance at the Kalispell Montessori School Friday evening before the ride. Come show off your bike, meet other riders and see the school sponsoring the event!

Best of luck to everyone participating! This looks like an awesome event, and I wish I was in shape enough and had the time for it this year. Hopefully by next year I'll be able to join you all. Dave is a great guy, and I'm sure this will be one you won't want to miss!

I'm so bummed that I can't join this year. By the time my head was in the biking game for the year and I realized when this was happening, my wife had already bought concert tickets to see her favorite band that weekend.

BUT, I'm ready for a 2020 announcement and will be reserving that weekend immediately upon announcement (assuming there is a 2020 event).

I've been working really hard this summer to get back into shape after being off the bike for almost two years and finding 20lbs more of myself to love. I've been doing 80+ miles /week and have burned down 7 lbs from the start July. I need to keep this momentum going throught the rainy season, so I'm not starting from 0 again in the spring.

Have fun everyone, I eagerly pictures!

Looking forward to this in 2020!

@mountaindave, obvious question, but still, will there be a van to haul all our luggage and misc crap from Kila to Hot Springs on saturday, or is this a self-supported ride? A glance at the cinorider site doesn't make this clear. Sorry if I missed tis earlier in the thread.

I'm just now looking into lodgings, with a bailout plan of tenting on the lawn at Alamedas Hot Springs.

Assuming this year's crowd is smaller than 2016, after a two year hiatus, and there may be some spaces left, anyone want to double or quadruple up on one of the cabins there instead?

Let's get out and ride. Weather looks perfect, mid 70's, chance of afternoon showers Sunday to help motivate us for the ride back.

Going to be on a 1973 Bianchi Specialissima Professionale.

See you all Friday at the Concours d'Excellance.

Thanks Dave for being the man!

As usual, I'm not ready but I'm riding anyway.
@ollo_ollo (Don) and @Lascauxcaveman (Tim) are my cellmates at Symes Hot Springs, I just need to get my bike to Don for transport to Kalispell. I need to pretend to work Monday morning then fly up to Kalispell.

Of that I have no doubt. I have never met a cyclist more ready than you for a ride like this.

I, on the the other hand, have trained a whopping 71 miles in the entire month of August. With 8 more today, my first ride of September. Worst ever since I got back on the bike in 2011. Pretty sure I can get through it, though. I don't think it will be nearly as grueling as last year's Tour d' Palouse. That was hell.

My fat-tired Nishiki Semi-Pro on my big 8-mile training ride today. It felt good to get out on a bike again. Feels like a Cino bike, for sure. Last decent ride I had before today was out of Bob Freeman's back yard back in July? I think I'm going to lose the rear bag for Cino; I carried too much of the wrong stuff last time. I'm keeping the new little Acorn Rando bag and the rock-hard 40 year old Norex saddle. Latest and greatest finds!
