Do you ride home for lunch?
Haven't posted in some time, but I've been lurking the past few days...
My commute isn't terribly far from home, it's maybe 1.25 miles round trip (but it's hilly as all get-out). I really don't like to ride anywhere on my lunch breaks as the weather here is rarely 'just right'. It's either blistering hot or ridiculously cold.
I'll usually just pack a lunch, but I hate sitting at the office to eat. I sometimes walk to the park to eat or just wander around downtown. Once in a blue moon, I'll ride back home, but changing clothes is more irritating than anything.
So how about you? Do you ride home for lunch?

I ride home for lunch every day. My route to work first thing in the morning varies greatly, depending on what time I need to be there that day (I'm the Production Manager for the local daily newspaper, which means I'm in charge of the pre-press and press work, printing the paper, inserting it, and getting it out the door each day). Today I rode 25 miles before arriving at work, but it can be as short as 3.5 miles each way if need be. This time of year, I do the most miles early in the morning, then usually take the 6.7 mile route home for lunch and back again. I can usually take more than an hour for lunch, since we print in the afternoon. And not having to change clothes makes it much quicker to get gone.

50 - 60 miles a day with 3500+ feet of climbing would be a little excessive, so I don't ride home for lunch. 25 - 30mi with only 1 trip up Novelty Hill is plenty.

30 minutes in; 30 minutes back. By the time I got home, I'd have to turn right around and come back!
...which'd be fine, except I do like having a little something to eat.

If I was 1.25 miles RT from my house? I'd go for lunch and more. Hell I'd got there to use the bathroom.

Do you really need to change clothes for a 1.25 mile trip?

There are so many places to eat within walking distance of my work, that I usually just take a walk to one of those. The other times I either carpool with co-workers or I bring my lunch. I never go home because there are nasty hills on my commute. I would have to change clothes and wash up and everything. Plus, going back to work on a full stomach probably wouldn't work out too well.

You guys need to work your way up to a management position. I ride 20 minutes home, eat, play on BF for an hour, then ride 20 minutes back to work. Except for the days when I get halfway home and get a phone call from work, and have to turn around and go back and unload a truck or something............... Hey, ya win some, ya lose some.

Even though I'm 11mins away from home, I brown bag it everyday.
What I tend to do is eat at 11:30 then take a brisk lunch hour walk. I find it gears me up for the rest of the afternoon.
Route can be seen here. There is a "FULL Screen" option just above the Flickr pictures.

I eat lunch at work then ride a nice 4 mile loop at a relaxing pace. My work place is rural...nothing but livestock and birds. If I was closer, yes, I would ride home for lunch.

bring shorts and a spare ****+ baby wipes.
that should solve it.
.625 miles with a break in between...you should be fine.
how long have you lived where you are?
when i went to guam 2 years ago the humidity was crazy- even in midnight rain. but i adjusted fine after 5-6days.

I ride home for lunch occasionally, and also to pick up my hockey equipment when I'm playing after work. My commute = 2km at the moment.

Share the road.
+1, I have lost about 10 pounds in the last month because of packing my lunch. BK, Taco Bell, and the NCO club make it hard to diet. Working out on the elliptical every day and counting calories are helping too.

I'm home for lunch now. It's a great way to check bikeforums - doing so on the work computer would be a no-no. I like to think the ride there and back will compensate for the mint chocolate chip ice cream I'm having, but I doubt it will.
Next week my office is moving - it'll only be a half mile from my house. So, either I'll have to find a long way to get home for lunch, or I'll have to cut out the scoop of ice cream.
