I don't know.... not always music. Sometimes I'm fantasizing how great I would have been if I'd known people road bikes professionally when I was a kid. Sad that reality snaps me back to realizing the chances of being one of the few that make decent money as professional rider is likely the same as my chance of becoming star quarter back in a super bowl.
When I start out a century ride, Queen comes to mind...
......
"Bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike…"
Oh, but if you are talking about listening to music.... nope. I can play music in my head better than any mp3 or ipod can. Keeps my ears available for more important sounds that might indicate danger and death or simply the joys of nature.

Alt rock, with news radio or sports as well.
Except when where you're riding doesn't produce as much nature, and is more along the lines of five lane highways at rush hour, concrete manufacturing plants, machine shops, etc.

I listen to the TED Radio Hour podcast if I feel lonely. Most of the time I listen to my breathing and other natural cycling sounds. If I am listening to music, then I listen to Bastille or Joywave.

None. Life doesn't need a soundtrack.
And to add a comment for those who disagree: plug in, don't broadcast to everyone within a quarter mile radius.

Nothing. I used to and nothing about it was that good. I want to hear things around me, and in traffic I think I really need to. Radio won't work, it cuts in and out, headphones are partly useless when wind blows in them. Too easy just to forget it all and just ride

Podcasts. Or baseball on the MLB app: when the Giants are on an east coast trip, the middle innings coincide with my evening commute.

BTW, my screen name, “Jim from Boston,” refers to my introduction when I (rarely) call in to talk shows, “… and now here’s Jim from Boston… What’s up Jim?...”
My favorite calls in to talk shows are replies to rants about cyclists, and I refer to myself as the Station’s Number One Fan among Boston’s Cyclists.

I listen to music most often on weekend long rides. FYA my playlist is on page 2 of my BF profile; about half the tunes are Golden Oldies before 1980, and the others before 1950, with many Big Band numbers.
I have a selected playlist of up tempo songs with interesting chord changes that I call “Hill Country,” including for example "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones.
BTW for the naysarers I have previously posted:

Yeh, Popcorn thread
Usually nothing, no electronics of any kind.
But occasionally music - Allman Bros (long jams), or for faster rides something with that driving beat - ZZ Top??? Not to big on lyrics as that tends to divert my attention.

Any of the accessories can do... But not at the max volume, you need to hear also what's behind you of besides you.. Moderate volume can do.. Always safety first...
