Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I can't believe they still hold eating competitions. It's NOT a good or healthy idea IMO.

They were a rarity. Loved when we got Cap'N Crunch with Crunch Berries. Mostly we had Life, Cheerios and Wheaties. I'd put so much sugar on it that it all wouldn't dissolve those last few spoonfuls of milk were heaven.

But you have to remember that they weren't originally Frosted Flakes. They were Sugar Frosted Flakes. There were also Sugar Smacks and Sugar Corn Pops. When concern over too much sugar in children's diets started mounting, Sugar Smacks became Honey Smacks and Sugar was dropped from Sugar Frosted Flakes and Sugar Corn Pops.

BTW...Interesting bit of trivia about Frosted Flakes. The original voice of Tony the Tiger was the same guy who sings "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!" in the animated film. Also, the guy who was the original voice of the Lucky Charms mascot was not Irish at all and grew up on Staten Island.

I suspect they would be called "HFCS Frosted Flakes" or "HFCS Corn Pops" if there were truth in advertising.

Same goes for KFC. They changed their name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC to give the appearance of being healthier. It's the same stuff, but appears healthier.

If I were to get rid of half of my son's toys, our 1200sq ft house would be plenty.

....though when the kids get just a little older, continuing to share a room is going to cause some strife.

Yes. The kids shared a room with a bunk bed when they were little. Once they started fighting too much, we had to separate them. I believe that happened around ages 6 and 8.

Got an extra room??

Oooh, I forgot about these - I liked 'em, too. I never knew them as anything other than Honey Smacks and Corn Pops, though.

There's been a lot of fighting, already - our 8 yr old son seems to like making a sport of annoying his sister without technically doing anything wrong. He'd make a fantastic 41 denizen. I think that it's mostly been quashed for now, though - a lot of summer activities got derailed by strife, so he knows that we're going to put our foot down on that noise.

No extra room, but there's long been talk of adding on. It's still at least a year away, but we're getting closer to that point, I think.

Back in the fifties, in rural northern Ohio, we had oatmeal for breakfast. And cocoa with toast strips dipped in. There was a sugared oatmeal product called Maypo, that I bugged my parents into buying. It didn't make the cut. I think my younger sisters ate Sugar Snaps and the like in the early sixties.

In the rush to book a room for the night, yesterday afternoon(we were on an unfamiliar computer at a friend's house), we accidently got one with a shared bath. It's been awhile, for both of us. But we're hearty folk, and young for our age.

Have gotten the soulless plastic bike pretty much dialed in, fitwise, added matching bottle cages, and was changing the cable rub helicopter tape, so I decided to take a pic.

We had a Surly Pugsley in the other day that was converted to an e-bike. The guy wanted slick tires, because he commutes on it.

Instead we usually got something boring like plain cheerios or raisin bran. Which I would bury underneath a mountain of table sugar because that was somehow OK. But at least it wasn't sugary cereal!
We were a Wheaties and Cheerios household, growing up. IIRC, I was a two teaspoons of sugar per bowl kid.

Same goes for KFC. They changed their name from Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC to give the appearance of being healthier. It's the same stuff, but appears healthier.
Internal sweetener is most likely as you say HFCS. But "frosting" could well still be white, crystalline sucrose. It is hard if not impossible to get the HFCS mix to crystallize and produce the white frosting effect on the surface of the flakes.

Edit: I looked it up and found a generic to have both corn syrup and refined sugar. Frosted Flakes lists only refined sugar as a sweetening ingredient. Go figure.
