Probably not good for selling his tandem, but still a pretty funny ad.

Argument Machine

Argument Machine - $1000 (Vancouver)

© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap
(google map)
bicycle type: tandem
brake type: drum
condition: good
electric assist: none
frame size: 21/19
handlebar type: drop
make / manufacturer: Cannondale
suspension: other/unknown
wheel size: 700C
For sale is my 1989 vintage argument machine. I bought it sight unseen from some guy in Battle Creek, MI and then paid $150 to have it shipped across the country. It is too small for me, but the size of the arguments it has caused is just right.

Are you going too fast? Too slow? Is the ride too bumpy? Did you hit the brakes without telling anyone? Are you too tall and ruining the view? Is this route stupid and now your partner just wants to go home? Get the answer to questions just like these and hundreds of others with this classic Cannondale Tandem. Have every move scrutinized. Hear every muttered curse that would normally be out of earshot if you took two bikes. Constantly accuse each other of sandbagging with this beautiful bright red argument machine. It'll make every ride a chore, but at least when you ride a tandem you won't leave your wife half a mile behind you on the trail because she rides so goddamn slowly.

Comes with free luggage rack.

Rare? Yeah, probably. In AMAZING CONDITION? Well... except for a few scuffs, it looks good. Worth $5K? HA!

I kind of like the color scheme on this, but the combination of the opening bid/BIN price, the fact that it's a 1X "Triiathlon" bike with a grip shifter, and the descriptive text put it solidly in wacky territory:

Those are first-gen Grip Shift and that was a thing in the '80s, and he's probably a big ring kind of guy.

The black stem and white/grey cable look out of place with that color scheme. Or else the seatpost should be black.

This may well be worth the asking price. I just thought it was interesting. It's the highest price I've ever seen for a bicycle that wasn't either vintage, a high-tech competition machine, or a straight-up piece of artwork.

Road bike - $12000 (Rancho Cordova)

bicycle type: road
frame size: 54
wheel size: 700C
One of a kind. Signed by the man himself Eddy Merckx. The bike has the 50th Anniversary Edition group set. Comes with all the paperwork and pictures with Eddy and my brother in law at a small bike shop in Newbury Park California. The bike is in great condition with one minor dent in the top tube. The signature is a bit faded but still there.

What, in a sleepy little cow-town like NYC? After providing her exact address, down to the apt #? And posting that she just moved to town? And posting THAT pic? Naw, never happen.....

Wow, I've never seen a non-dealer craigslist ad with the full address before.

That's a professionally-done photograph. Maybe the poster is a talented photographer, or maybe the person in the picture has nothing to do with the one posting the ad. You all assume it's a "she", which is never stated in the ad...

Yeah, we went through this with a similar ad a while back, mods did not seem happy.

I would note the mattress that just happens to be leaning against the wall there.

It could even be the yoga teacher's student in the picture, as a sales pitch to say, this could be you.
