Shifting issues with Microshift 9 speed barend shifters
I'm building up a touring bike and have had a very frustrating time with my rear shifting. I purchased some lightly used Microshift bar ends on Ebay for a very good price and the rest of the drivechain is brand new. Every review I have seen for these shifters has been positive but I am noticing quite a bit of play between clicks (sort of half indexed/half friction) allowing for many half shifts to occur. I took the bike into my local shop and even they weren't able to get it working.
My wife has a new Surly Cross check with the 10 speed Microshift bar ends and they have a completely different feel. Way more smooth with definite clicks. Could there be a huge difference between these generations or did I just purchase some worn out shifters?

anyone have experience working with these? i haven't found anything online about them failing. my next step is to redo the cable routing from the shifters to downtubes to make sure there are no abrupt turns but that still doesn't account for the play in the shifters

I also wonder how "lightly used" the shifters you bought were. I've got 10-speed Microshift shift levers on Retroshift "brifters" and they have been perfect for thousands of miles.

I've got the same problem with my MS 9sp bar ends which came with my Salsa Vaya. It was real bad from the factory and we found the derailleur hanger needed straightening. It helped but I still have issue with play leading to half shifts. It's like there's some built in half friction thing going on leading to sloppy indexing.I may try Shimanos version if I can't get it figured out.
