Gout
is it time for a seasonal thread on this? if not ignore me :-)
got Gout again. it's my own fault. I know better what not to eat & drink. been stressed by many changes lately & I resort to bad, old eating habits. especially at large holiday gatherings w/ family & friends
anyways the left foot is very mad at me. got on steroids, then they doubled the steroids, so I'm hopeful. no meat or alcohol in over a week. drinking lots of lemon water now. funny thing is, it came up in my arch at the top & on the outside top of the foot. making the whole midsection of the foot inflamed. highly unusual

Im on a one year no beer (or any other EtOH) challenge. I started trying to eat 7 fruit and veg servings a day. No more flare ups have occurred, not even that slight pain in the big toe joint that I always had between flare ups. Ive also lost some weight and my systolic BP is down from 150 to 125.
Steroids are awful on your system. Its time to make some permanent changes. Check out this guy for some inspiration along with the OYNB Facebook page. https://www.youtube.com/c/HabitsUnplugged
Good luck!

for my own record, yep, did it again. just about exactly 1 year later. it came back in the same area, left side & top of mid arch, of left foot. caught it earlier this time & the 12 day regime of Prednisone did the trick.
last July, an Uncle suggested 1 colchicine twice a week, which I actually was trying to do, for a better part of the last 6 months, but that stuff is awful & also wasn't adequate to prevent another flare up
I intentionally cut back on my hydration regime, last Fall & into this Spring, so that was probably a mistake. back on lemon water twice a day & back hydrating more
1 flare up pr year isn't too bad, I guess
gonna sneak a little animal meat back into my diet in the coming days / weeks. also looking forward to a shot & a beer sometime in the coming weeks

I fought it for years I was finally put on allopurinol a few years back. And I haven't had a flare up since. I still won't touch chicken liver I love them but if I ate them I might as well go ahead and get out my crutches. Be aware of the fact that I had surgery for bunions that had extra bone build up from gout.

Hello fellow gout sufferers, I have felt your pain. I started experiencing gout flare ups in 2012, it took me a while to figure out what it was, gout wasn’t on my radar at the time. I was still eating and drinking like a teenager then, I was hoping running and long-distance cycling would keep me young forever. Exercise helps, of course, but it is not magic. I thought my riding days were ending, but I finally got the gout under control now.
I eat more sensibly, but the big improvement was taking Febuxostat aka Uloric. I am not a fan of medication, and those pills can be pricey, but I have not had a flare for years. I am a little concerned about possible side effects, but so far, I have not noticed any. Possibly there is internal damage going on, time will tell. The good news is I can ride without thinking about foot pain anymore. And I can make some bad food and drink choices occasionally, without immediate consequences, it seems.

I used to get gout in my big toe joint.
I also once got Tophi Gout in my elbow. THAT was painful. I couldn't even bend my elbow. The fan blowing on it caused discomfort. It lasted about 3 days.
I've been on Allopurinol for a few years and haven't had any major gout symptoms and my blood work has always been good.

for my own record, gladly doing OK w/o any pharmaceuticals. my hydration is back where it should be. a big water in the morning w/ juice from 1/2 lemon & 1/2 shot of apple cider vinegar. later in the day another big water w/ juice from 1/2 lemon. other fluids throughout the day. been able to enjoy a little bit of alcohol this summer & regular modest servings of meat, including seafood.

Get a treadmill with a tv built in.
When I had problems like that, I'd make coffee, and then get on the treadmill for 30 or 40 minutes, 4 or 5 days a week.
You absolutely need the tv, I watch the shows I like while I trudge along.
I bought a used gym treadmill, it hadn't been used much.
I just had a friend die from complications diabetes caused. That sort of thing changed how I looked at the cost.

Gout is a type of arthritis that may occur when uric acid crystals, a natural byproduct of your metabolism, have formed in your joints.
Diabetes, on the other hand, develops when your blood sugar levels are high.
I don't have diabetes
my gout flareup was short lived, all better after just a cpl days
I use a treadmil daily & I agree watching videos helps the boredom

Make sure you drink more water. I don't have a lot of flairs but it usually in the winter and I blame dehydration because I don't get as thirsty .
