Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looks like a bad weld. It could also be a sign of a front end collision. Check the top of the top tube and the downtube as well, for similar signs of folding.

I don't wish any ill will on the driver; I don't even know who he is.

It does prompt an interesting issue. Lots of people, maybe not you, but lots of others, watch auto racing to see wrecks. Then when a bad one inevitably happens, everyone's like, "Oh no, this is terrible."

Well, duh. You have cars driving bumper-to-bumper at 200 m.p.h and someone's eventually going to get hurt. But that's what people are paying to see.

Same observation goes to football.

Didn't see a reply to this. I guess no one else has had this problem recently? I'm not aware of a setting that may be causing it.

Which begs the observation: The only time you took an interest, was to show the darker side of auto racing, made even "better" by a broadcast from another country. So be it, but for some, it's not amusing.

I actually hate this part of human nature.

We had a candidate for a highly competitive training position this year who we eliminated from consideration because one of his referees characterized his behavior in the clinic as ‘sychophantic groveling mixed with passive aggressive arrogance’. Wow good to know.

(I would personally have refused to write a letter for the fellow if that’s what I was planning to say. But that’s just me.)

Of course the candidate contacted us after the fact to express surprise that he didn’t get the position, he was so confident his interview had gone well. He ‘requested’ an explanation.

”The applicant pool was very strong this year. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.”

Wish I could say I took them out of contention for this but I can’t these days. They’re still in the running, plenty of time to work on manners if I take the pup on.

I know steel ripples like that, but does aluminum?

I'd mark the edges of it and monitor closely. If it is a crack, that's not the best place to ignore one. I continued riding my old mountain bike with a cracked seat tube, but I knew that even if it gave way the result wouldn't be catastrophic. Head tube joints are a different story.

Ah, me too. I’m not going to pass on a little hotshot because of a perky email. Once they’re performing well, I’m okay with first names too.

Just an old softy.

Im gunna keep watching it. I showed it to one of my friends and he just said I can have his pre madone carbon fiber frame set. When I buy the new group set I’ll switch everything over if it is indeed a crack. The dent has been there but not it looks like a crack has indeed formed I know that wasn’t there before.

Velo, The only issues with strava i have seen lately is it adding a large amount of miles to the total distance traveled. I havnt had any issues myself.

The next two weeks, prolly longer I’m gunna only really have access to a gym style indoor fitness bike. I want to make the best of the situation and get the most out of it. Any recommendations? Should I up the resistance and focus on strength “fake hills”, go for length of time to build up endurance, ride like I usually do?

Military folks still use Respectfully/Very respectfully, depending on the relative rank of the addressee. I like that and sometimes use it when writing to civilians.

Plus, you've got a good trainer bike now

I know that you've said that your CAAD is a little small, will the new Trek fit you any better?

You're just into moving your legs. As far as I'm concerned, you should do a stair-stepper, or something like that. Those recumbent gym bikes are a pain in the keister, literally. Stair stepper for an hour one day, squats, deadlift, leg presses, extensions, the next day. Burn some calories, work the legs.

Hey indyfabz I just heard that Riverbend Cycles/Cafe has closed permanently. Sad!

That was my "go to" rest stop when riding from my house to the city.

Yep. Try to keep up with current events. I think the café aspect is going to reopen somewhere else.

Yesterday, purely out of convenience, I bought a steak from Aldi. When I got home I realized that I could see the marks where the jockey had been whipping it.

I am not in the loop. Apparently both closed just over 1 month ago. Still sad.
