I have a 26er set up with drop bars and use it for trail riding and gravel. I also have a 29er with drop bars....I don't understand all the 27.5 craze...The bike industry should of kept 26er and 29er as the two industry standards....The 27.5 needs to go away and the 26er needs to come back.

Eventuaally after most people buy 29ers, 26" wheels will come back as the latest and greatest thing in bicycling. Look at the efforts being made to market 650B wheels on a lot of road bikes.

Heh. Just picked up a '92 Stumpjumper on eBay. As a noncompetitive rider, for about a $250 entry price, including shipping, for a bike that is straight and has no major cosmetic or mechanical issues, I think I did OK. All bikes in my stable are old, and I have fun riding all of them.

A former competitive runner now disabled by the flu shot received in 2017, I'm not worried about speed or performance, tho' I could have given literally over 99% of the world hell in a foot race a few years ago in my mid forties... I'm more stable on the bike these days than on my own two feet thanks to Big Pharma and the military's drive to vaccinate all of us with toxic crap. The Stumpjumper is a bike for fun and also work on the farm (in conjunction with a trailer for hauling/moving stuff.) Can't run anymore, so this is how I stay in shape these days.

Bigger wheels definitely have an advantage but I hope they'll continue to support the 26" market with good tires, wheels, etc. for years to come. The fun and utility factor for the 26ers is still there.

Since I'm getting my Jamis, I need to figure out what to do with my '07 F4. I actually bought this bike in August from the original owner for $100 and he only rode it around his neighborhood with slick tires. I saw it on FB a few minutes after he posted it and I was the first to reply. Maybe put the road tires back on, add a rack and do some overnght trips? I hate to sell it, it's a killer bike and mint condition. The matte brown looks beautiful in person.

Well it arrived tonight. Front wheel and pedals installed. Ready to roll hopefully tomorrow. It's currently raining here so I hope it dries out enough to ride.. 🤞

I’ve ridden both 26ers and 29ers and really don’t have a preference. All I know is that for us guys that have older 26ers, we can get decent wheels and parts at a great price. I picked up this Schwinn Moab up at a auction for $30 in great condition. This was when Schwinn was actually building a nice bike with good components. I am getting ready to switch this one over to disc brakes with a set of wheels I got for next to nothing. (The seat post is not always that high)

Looks good, mine will be here today. Are the tires already set up as tubeless or do they have tubes? I've never had tubeless so I'll have to figure all that out.

Got mine and threw it together. My dropper post won't come back up on it's own. I've played around with the cable tension and that didn't do anything nor is the seatpost clamp super tight. Is there something else I should do? This is my first dropper post.

I am surprised by how light the wheels/tires are. Didn't weigh them but they're surprisingly light, I was expecting them to be heavy as hell.

I think I got a bad dropper post. I'm pissed. Played with the cable tension, which is all you can do with this one. It's like a suspension post with almost 1/2 inch of travel. Then it won't go back up more than a couple of inches when I drop it.

No, I'll just deal with it tomorrow but I've never really been sold on dropper posts anyway. More weight, more cables, more maintenance and more stuff to go wrong. I just ordered a Ritchey Trail seatpost to match the bar and stem and drop a pound off the bike. I did take it for a 10 minute spin and it feels really nimble and lighter than it is, I like this modern geometry. I'll be hitting the singletrack in the morning.

I still maintain a stable of 26" mountain bikes. Yes they're old, and outdated in comparison to modern mountain bikes. But for the trails that I ride on, which are mostly hard pack double track and carriage trails, a modern mountain bike is not required. 26" is cheap and perfectly suited to less demanding off-road fun.

27.5 grew because the industry realized how many new bikes they could sell. Once 27.5 sales level off the industry will "find" how awesome 26" is again, and start marketing it again.

Oh mother of god what a sweet ride. You can see my sandy trails. A 26x3.0 at 18psi makes it feel like dirt. Everything about the bike is perfect, besides the non-functional junk dropper post.

Lousy pic, but ... still going strong. At one time my only bike, used for everything (inc. road riding w/slicks). Still frequent use now through the summers at our place out east. Non-techy singletrack and rough back roads out the door. The frame is my 2005 Giant Rainier bought new; everything else has been changed out over time. Best thing: a pair of Mavic 717 Disc rims on XT hubs, rims and hubs in perfect condition so they'll last me out. The frame is perfect, and tough as old boots. I'm considering slapping on a nice 1x11 XT drivetrain -- I still like it, and can't bear to part with it. I love old-school NORBA-geometry hardtails.
