Your Weekend Ride Reports -- February 15/16

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Colder than last week, but at least it's sunny. 25 miles again finishing up on the new road construction

Pretty fast & taxing group ride with the other club. Nap required after.

55, 3,100'

The beatings will continue until the weight gain is reversed.

Rode up Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road for 2 Dr Peppers at the Mt Baldy Lodge. Hits the spot!. The Ridge Rd was closed so I had 24 miles of solitude without race cars and motorcycles. Saw a group of e-unicycles. Looks like fun but how much do you actually pedal?

55 miles and 6K ft/climb.

27 miles today. Almost all Greenway and sidewalk. Thank God for 32mm tires. Continental Grand Prix 5000 tubeless. Smoothed out the broken pavement and roots under the Greenway.

I finished a Super Randonnée in 50h 24m this weekend. Although the route on RideWithGPS reported 12k elevation, but actual result on the Garmin was 9581m. That's still 382 miles with 31433 feet of climbing... the most brutal ride I've done so far.

26 miles Saturday, mostly zone 3 effort, stiff winds. I need to swap back to low profile rims. That higher profile front wheel felt wobbly in crosswinds.
35 miles Sunday, mostly zone 3/4 effort. Partway through the ride I saw a friend a few hundred yards ahead but cooked my legs trying to catch him. Legs are dead now. Beautiful spring-like afternoon, temp in the 70s, breezy but not windy. My fastest average speed this year. Been kinda sluggish since January but okay today.

Monday weather looks good. I might ride again. And remind myself to take it a little easier.

Took the mtb on my usual 27 mile pavement loop, felt great with temps in the low 40s. I've had a small problem with my knee but targeted knee workouts and fine tuning cleat position left me feeling great at the end. I have it setup as an aggressive flat bar, and my back didn't cramp up. I repeatedly climbed out of the saddle and my knee was just fine!

Saturday: 1.5 hours on Zwift due to a gnarly weather system. Avg pwr, 268W

Sunday: SUNSHINE! I loaded a route I mapped out into my Garmin and just did what it told me to do. I rode through a covered bridge for the first time in a few years, so that was fun.

Last Tuesday took out my new to me Lynskey on my 27 mile Davis Is. ride. The seat that came with the bike and was pretty painful and squeaky. Hard to judge the rest of the bike until a replacement saddle comes in the mail later this week. Wednesday did a repeat ride for 27 miles on Davis Is. with my Jamis Renegade. Both days were fairly hot and windy. Saturday and Sunday I was back in the Ocala Nat. Forest and did a 40 mile ride each day. Kind of cool in the morning, but otherwise clear, sunny and low winds.

72k today. Second ride of 2020. Just happy to be out on the bike after a winter of being stuck inside.

50 miles on Presidunce Day. Supposed to be a relaxing recovery ride after some hard workout rides. Turned out to be the most stressful ride I've had in years. Nearly got hit twice by negligent drivers, one of whom was an Amazon delivery driver. Really sucks all the pleasure out of riding.

My legs are sore and dead. My attitude is shot. I'm gonna take a few days off. Between this and getting a $300 ticket a couple of weeks ago for slow rolling a right turn at a completely empty intersection, I'm starting to hate the sight of my bicycle.

I'll be back. But I need a few days to stew over this crap and soften up my gristle.

^^^^^^ The most dangerous animal in the world is a FedEx driver on Christmas Eve Day. Almost got nailed myself when he ran a stop sign and I swerved to avoid him.
