Ideas on Squeaking

2 year-old road bike in great condition. Squeaking sound started up this week, seems to roughly concide with some, but definitely not all, pedal strokes. Started on the right. Today, could have sworn it was also on the left, but I know I am notoriously bad at identifying where these things are actually coming from. The character of the sound is like that of a piece of leather or a fastener or something , rubbing up against something. But the shoes are not rubbing anything. Nothing is. Anyhow, it is definitely a squeaking type sound. Chain is totally lubed up, so that is not the issue. Cleat and pedal seem not to be involved, either. They are quiet. Just wondering if people think this is a pedal issue or chainring or what people think. Thanks for the input!!

Saddles can squeak as well. Check that as well.

Swap your pedals with a known-quiet pair of platform pedals to rule out shoe or cleat noise.

+1 on eliminating the saddle as the source. I once chased what I thought was a drive train squeak for weeks. (only happened while pedaling) Finally removed the seat post and cleaned and greased it and the noise went away.

.
...saddles can be a source of squeaking noises at the seat post insertion, at the rail/post clamp interface, or in the saddle itself (often where the leather hits the rear frame support.) Mostly, it's a process of elimination.
