Looks like a 50cm. Good price, great bike.
My wife rides a '86 50cm, however it's a red white.

I enlarged the image to identify the RD. It appears the FD has a bronzish swing arm as well. Still couldn't figure out the RD. I guess it's the 1st version of the 600EX.

The '86 should have the 2nd version 600EX with SIS.
The '85 Ironman had the first version non SIS.
They do look very similar to each other.

I think it's an illusion I'm seeing. The "Shimano 600 SIS" looks like a solid piece of silver with a black stripe below it. Looking at it again, I think I see the black part above the writing now.

i think its the lighting, its a standard 600 SIS rear derailleur. RD-6208. The 1985 had 6207 with a dark anodized outer plate that just read "Shimano 600"

I still haven't found forks for my '85 Ironman. One of the issues I'm having is how to measure them so I can order the correct size. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
In the meantime I have a complete group of tricolor minus wheels. So while looking for wheels I came across a good deal on a bike that had some vintage wheels that would do for now, plus a complete group to put on my '85 Ironman.
So now the plan is to strip new bike down to frame and transfer parts to the '85 Ironman and sell the frame. The new bike is too big for me. I test Rode it yesterday and it's a climber. Here's a pic.

1994 Trek 2200 Carbon/aluminum. Full campy voloce 8 speed. This will have to do til I get etap for my '85 Ironman.

A person posted a thread needing help with a replacement headset for an 85 Ironman. I'm trying to find the crown race size. Could someone help him out if they know a good replacement. Thanks.

That's a 27mm crown race on a Tange Levin headset.
Still widely available, although you need to make sure it's a 27mm race. Lots of 26.4's out there.
Tree Fort has them for $20.99, a good price.

Speaking of wheels/hubs, did any of the 130 spaced, 8-10 speed, 105/Tricolor/Ultegra hubs come in dark grey or black? 126 spaced 105 came in a dark shade. 5500 105 came in black. Any others? Would it be faux pas to use one of the black MTB hubs on a roadie? So many questions.

Here's another question. Or maybe, it's some insight into the marketing/production plan for the IM. Did the 85-86 Prestige have 130 rear DO spacing? The Turbo I have does. So do the 2 84 Lotus Legends. The IM would be a bike with an upper level frame with good, solid mid to upper level components at a good price point. It was a good strategy. It would never have came with factory build 130 hubs until they trickled down to the mid level components. No need for the 130 spacing.

5500 black ones are pretty rare. 6700 Ultegra came in grey but not dark grey. Tricolor was always polished. 6800 or later hubs might be a dark enough grey.
Only issue I have with Deore hubs is the spacing, can never remember when they started to go 135mm.

Am surprised that ANY road specific frame would come with 130 spacing until 8 speed DA was introduced in, what, late 1988? Until then there were no road specific hubs that were wider than 126. Some frames were built in 128 in the later 80’s to accommodate either size hub, but only because the manufacturer used the same basic frame for 6/7/8 speed models.

Appears BF or the mods or whatever are not sending any of my messages. Nothing would surprise me.

I can get them but when I send them, getting no response from most, and the "Sent Messages" folder is empty.

I need your mailing addresses for the frame and wheels. They're packed.
If I can't get the mailing address ASAP, the boxes go into the black hole once described as my storage unit.
Thanks.

I just joined the club! I Just bought this 52cm Ironman today:

I got it home, cut the lock off, yanked the cateye meter and sensors off, and replaced the trashed seat:

It’s very dusty but it looks to be very low mileage. Not one spot of rust and the anodization is still intact on the rims.

I have some questions:
1. Has anyone tried to put a 7 speed freewheel on there? Like a modern Shimano or Sunrace freewheel with HG style cogs? I want to change to STI with 7 speeds in the back.

2. The 105 crankset is 165mm. Did it come stock like that for this 52cm frame? It’s kind of surprising.

3. Has anyone found a pink/magenta handlebar tape that exactly matches the paintjob? (Yes- I am going to go all out on color matching!)

Which brand freewheel is it? It seems like some people say the DNP brand freewheels are too wide and the 14t small cog is too big. Unfortunately DNP seems to be the only one making them with 11T small cogs.

Welcome, we've been waiting for you, and with the iconic Miami Vice no less.
Im not sure what DNP is. However, the relatively inexpensive china made Shimano 7 speed freewheels have rivets and may need a washer spacer. But original vintage Shimano freewheels will not need one.
I've never used sunrace but others here have canklecat

In freewheels, I like the SunRace 7-speed chromed freewheels, the MFR30 (13-25) and MFM30 (13-28). Both shift more crisply and quietly and run more smoothly than the Suntour. Some other SunRace freewheels were less nice but those two models have been terrific. Ditto the similarly made chromed SunRace cassettes in 7 and 8 speed.Combined with a decent KMC chain like the old Z72, that cleared up any gripes I used to have with my Ironman (I didn't like the Suntour freewheels with index shifting, and the Suntour chain was awful, crudely made).

Regarding size, freewheels with 14T small cogs forced the chain too close to the chainstay. To prevent rubbing I had to adjust the rear wheel a bit differently in the dropouts, which can affect shifting. I switched back to 13T small cogs.

I've used cassettes with 11T and 12T smallest cogs and the drivetrain feels grindy in the smallest cogs/biggest gear. No big deal since I use the smallest cogs only on downhills. I'm not strong enough to maintain a reasonable cadence on flat terrain in anything more than a 52 or 53 chainring and 13T rear cog, unless there's a hefty tailwind.

In 7 and 8 speed cassettes I'd rather have a 13-25 or 13-28, more closely spaced, but the only affordable cassettes I can find start with 11T or 12T small cogs. That usually creates an awkward shift in the middle of the range.
