The invitation alone isn’t careless. We are having my parents and my in laws here for the holiday, but a requirement of coming is no going out in public for two weeks prior and negative tests 2 days before getting here. Everyone is taking it very seriously and I’d say that the risk from this gathering is less than going to a grocery store.

Simple ingredient list. I rode through Bigglerville in September. The surrounding area is the 5th largest producer of apples and peaches in the country.

Right... I didn’t invite my dad for that reason, he’s on immunosuppressive drugs and I don’t want him to chance it, regardless of how careful we all are. He would have felt obligated had I invited him, so I called and explained why I didn’t.

Biglerville is where I went to High School. Little town of about 1000 people.

One of my friends from HS owns an orchard there and his son runs a cider mill. Ploughman's. Can't ship to CA, unfortunately.

We were invited over to Thanksgiving at my dad's. He seemed a little surprised when I declined. He lives in one of those rural areas in WI that's particularly hard-hit.
A few days after declining, my wife told me that she saw an "interesting" repost on my dad's gf's facebook page (my dad and his gf share the fb page), evidently something that's been circulating with, uh, groups that have been rather cavalier about the whole ordeal. In essence, the post was, "Before you skip the family Thanksgiving, consider that it maybe the last family Thanksgiving for some members of your family."
No ****, Sherlock. Y'all are looking to self-fulfill this prophecy, ain't ya?

The picture should be no surprise in a country already suffering from an epidemic of "deaths of despair," addiction, chronic pain, obesity, etc. and dead set on ignoring other obvious and terrifying realities. People aren't stupid, I think they are simply overloaded, and no amount of prescribing, proscribing, shaming, or yelling is going to change their behavior. I just hope they're willing to be vaccinated.

I haven't seen my family since August 2019. I was hoping all year I could make it up by Thanksgiving. Nope. With the vaccine roll out I am hoping by April 2021. My Mom is 82.
In other news I am at lunch eating in my car in a parking lot. I am skipping the company Thanksgiving lunch. SMFH

Speaking of not-hot pics, I was thinking of posting an update on my Movember growth. But I think it might scare people away.

But instead, this is something being passed around by the most cavalier, those that think it's a nothingburger (to borrow a term from another thread) and who have been treating precautionary measures as something between an inconvenience and a trampling of rights. These are *exactly* the kinds of people that shouldn't be gathering, yet their voices are being amplified by the echo chamber.
