More S24O Nomenclature...

While Grant Peterson may have coined the term "S24O" for a sub-24 hour overnight bike trip, I think it is time to expand the taxonomy of this type of touring. For example, when I don't camp and rely on the plastic, I think that is a "CC-S24O." I am planning a trip where my wife will meet me to the spend the night in an interesting city on the second day (and drive me back home), which will be a S24O-W. And some of my trips that were just ill-conceived or doomed from the beginning? Those will be known as S24O-WTF's . Other ideas??

Does everything need to have its own name?

Isn't that the point of a name?

Well, I guess then a S24O where you have to get back early for work would be a S24O-HTFU.

cyclists have been doing overnight trips for years, it's an overnight bike trip. S24O sounds clunky to me, but even more like Rivendell marketing.

+1

I tend to dislike the term, but maybe because I strongly dislike the whole Rivendell "thing". I guess some like the Rivendell stuff, but it is like fingernails on the chalk board to me.

I have valid criticisms of rivendell, but as to S240 bike trips,

Grant is marketing the ethos its okay for people to set off for a casual overnight camping trip on their bicycle.

And that's a great thing.

What other bicycle company is doing that?

i'd like to propose an acronym. To address the growing in popularity of quite boozy overnight bike camping trips by tribes of fixie culture youth, I suggest the term D.O.O.B. - a drunk overnighter on bicycle!

D.O.O.B.

How about a twelve step program for acronym abuse (AA)?

Just call it a bike ride. Nice and simple. Carrying camping gear is optional.
